4 AI giants beat estimates last night. All 4 are red this morning. Tesla, Meta, IBM, Lam: beats on EPS or revenue, then -2.7% to -7.2% premarket. Nasdaq futures -1.7%. The market isn't grading the quarter. It's grading the AI bill 👇 $META $TSLA
43
Update: $TSLA -5% premarket, back to ~$367 from $386.47. The beat didn't matter. The capex cut and the 5M-car target did.
$TSLA Q3: beat on EPS and cash, just shy on revenue. Revenue $28.05B (est. $28.34B) · EPS $0.48 (est. $0.45) · FCF +$1.53B (est. −$4.51B). Capex was $4.73B vs $7.77B expected, so the AI bet burned far less than feared. ELONOMICS No.35 👇

Nasdaq futures -1.7% this morning on AI-spending worries, after Meta guided capex to $135–145B. Same fear as telecom in 2000. The difference: telecom built for demand that never came. AI's is already booked 👇
Yes, it's different this time. 2002: just 2.7% of US fiber was lit, and bandwidth prices fell 92%. 2026: 98.6% of data-center capacity is leased, H100 rents are up 24%, and $2.35T of cloud backlog is waiting. Telecom built for demand that never came. Part 2 👇 $ORCL $MSFT

Kobeissi: $419B of AI bonds in 2026, a record. Last time an industry borrowed like this to build the internet's pipes: telecom, ~$500B in 1996–2000 (≈$1T today). Then WorldCom and Global Crossing. Is it different this time? Part 2 tonight 👇 $ORCL $META

Tesla just cut its 2026 spending plan by $5B. Then Elon sized his chip fab at "north of $100 billion." $TSLA is down 3.3% after hours. 7 things from tonight's Q3 call: 💸 Capex guide cut to ~$20B from $25B+, paid mainly from operating cash. Tesla lined up $30B of credit but won't draw any this year. 🏭 Terafab: "tens of billions" of equipment through early 2028, "probably north of $100 billion long term." Who pays, Tesla or SpaceX, isn't decided. 🚕 Cybercab: unsupervised public rides in Dallas next month. First Cybercabs to customers by end of 2026. 🤖 Optimus: early production has started in Fremont. Reaching 20K a week is "at least a year, maybe a little longer" away. Outside customers around end of 2027. 🚗 Cars: "aiming for 5 million vehicles a year by approximately 2030." Q3 deliveries were 487K. ⚡ Energy: Megapack is "almost sold out" for 2027. Energy margin jumped to 33.1% from 20.4%, mostly tariff refunds. 🛰️ SpaceX merger: "tap dancing through a minefield." No questions taken on it. The card's surprise was cash: +$1.53B vs −$4.51B expected. The call says the big spend is pushed out, not cancelled. ELONOMICS No.35

AI-related borrowing is skyrocketing. US Dollar-denominated AI-related corporate bond issuance is up to $419 billion so far in 2026, the highest annual figure on record. This represents a +90% YoY increase from full-year 2025 and a +437% increase from full-year 2024. Year-to-date, Alphabet, $GOOGL, Amazon, $AMZN, Meta, $META, Microsoft, $MSFT, and Oracle, $ORCL, have issued a combined $157 billion in corporate bonds, accounting for 37% of the total. This is followed by investment-grade and high-yield data center and computing companies, which have raised $66 billion and $37 billion, respectively, and together account for ~25% of AI-related issuance. Other AI-linked corporate bonds have represented $159 billion, or 38%. The AI revolution is driving an unprecedented wave of corporate borrowing.

1 Tesla share buys 2.38 SpaceX shares right now. Since June it's ranged from 1.91 to 3.24, a 70% swing. Musk just confirmed merger committees at both companies. Any deal comes down to that one number. Tesla reports tonight 👇 $TSLA

The path to the first Cup + title double ever: Down 2-1 to the Hawks in round 1.
Then 13 straight wins. Only the '17 Warriors ever won more in a row. Down 29 in Finals Game 4. Won by 1. The 76ers they swept in May? That's who's across the floor tonight. #Knicks #NBA
The @nyknicks ran the most dominant playoff run in NBA history: +14.9 a game. The 10 teams right behind them? 6 repeated. But nobody has gone back-to-back since the '17-'18 Warriors. 8 straight one-and-dones. Ring night tonight vs. LeBron. Let’s go Knicks #NBA

$SMH daily RSI just hit 33. Of 42 chip-ETF bottoms since 2009, the median printed at RSI 34. Only 21% ever got below 30. One more -2.6% day ($524) and it’s officially “oversold.” But weekly RSI is 48. The real capitulations (2020, 2022) hit ~30. Bottom, or just halftime?

Musk just promised a SpaceX share to every kid in America. 73M kids × $145 = $10.6B. Nearly 2x his $5.7B Tesla gift in 2021. It’s also just 1.1% of his SpaceX stake. He could do it 88 times. Per kid, that one share has swung from $108 to $211 this year. $SPCX $TSLA

Kobeissi is right: most S&P 500 stocks are in a bear market. Here's how extreme it is. The equal-weight S&P 500 just hit its weakest level vs. the index in 23 years. Since Mar 30: index +21%, average stock +15%.
5 years: +86% vs. +52%. $SPY $RSP $NVDA
Calls for a "Black Monday" are spreading rapidly across social media right now. If history is any guide, this means the S&P 500 should hit 8,000 soon. Ignore the noise. Read our analysis below.

I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

AI stocks just had a brutal 3 days. $CRWV -23%. $SMCI -16%. $AMD -8%. Hot CPI, AI debt fears, China worries. But chips have had 4 selloffs of 12%+ since 2023. All 4 hit a new high within 58 trading days of the bottom. $NVDA $SMH $MU

$CBRS is down 53% from its first close. Everyone's sure it's broken. They said that about these too: $BE fell 46%. Then +234% off the low.
$RBRK fell 52%. Then +173%.
$NOW fell 56%. Then +72%.
$SPCX fell 49%. Then +45%. Cut in half isn't the end of the story.

The Atlantic didn't see a hurricane until Oct 7. Isaias is the latest first hurricane of the satellite era, 26 days past the old mark (Sep 11, 2002 and 2013). The average first hurricane arrives Aug 11. Only 1905 (Oct 8) is comparable. #Hurricane #Isaias
