DeepSeek v4.1 Flash 1017 is genuinely the most impressive game of opensource model I’ve ever worked with Prone to overthinking but with the right settings you can get around it and get some SoTA results Runs on 4x RTX PRO 6000s / 4x DGX Sparks btw

The Tesla Model 3 with FSD is mind-blowing. Jessica and I drove to the gym without touching the controls once. It backed out of our driveway, drove there, and backed into a parking space. It's amazing that you can buy so much future for $40k.

the only moat left is the literal one you need to be physically digging a moat they’re coming, but their robotic limbs can’t cross the water, you need air defenses on the moat’s edge, oh god the drone deterrents have been hacke–

It’s nice I can live with ApplePay in NYC but could we also get rid of the paper receipts before and after paying? Just go full euro, bring the reader

Why are you avoiding self driving? Do you know what the fatality statics on self driving are?

At this point I'm more worried about nontrivial projects that *aren't* releasing a stream of security updates than those that are. Where are my BIOS updates? microcode updates?

We’re going to see a lot more of this kind of deployment: AIs learning the details of how R&D actually gets done in the real world.
In 12 weeks, we built a research facility that is run entirely by AI. AI designs, executes, and observes experiments end-to-end across biology, chemistry, and materials science. We’re introducing SciUniverse: a benchmark that measures AI’s ability to do real-world scientific research.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

Who remembers setting up Dragon NaturallySpeaking on Windows 98, obediently reading several pages of text hoping you were about to experience the future?

If @DarioAmodei wants to slow down Anthropic that’s his choice — do it today! If he wants to lobby other frontier models to do the same, that’s fine as well — he did that today! However, don’t go crying to the government and beg them to slow down open source models — has he been doing that behind the scenes?
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. You can read the full post here: darioamodei.com/post/we-must…

If you don’t find personal AI assistants to be useful the either 1) you are unimaginative 2) you have offloaded coordination to someone else who shoulders that burden on your behalf without you understanding that 3) you view doing administrative tasks as a core part of you identity

A fun thing Tesla could do: map pot holes and generally measure road quality/ride smoothness. Then rank municipalities on road quality and how quickly they fix potholes. Some good ol’ fashion competition might help make things better!

The University of Michigan put their entire robotics degree on GitHub. Not one course. The whole curriculum. ROB 101 — Computational Linear Algebra for Robotics ROB 311 — How to Build Robots and Make Them Move ROB 501 — Mathematics for Robotics ROB 530 — Mobile Robotics Every lecture video on YouTube. Every textbook on GitHub. Every problem set, every exam, every line of code. Professor Jessy Grizzle said it best when they launched it: "Linear algebra has become the language of computer vision, machine learning, robotics, and autonomy." So instead of making students wait four semesters of calculus before touching a robot... they built a curriculum that starts with the math that actually matters, applied to real robotics problems from day one. This is what open education looks like when a top-10 engineering school decides to mean it. Free. GitHub. .@ArapahoeCC is now an official @NASA Aerospace Hub! Colorado is the national leader in aerospace, and this new designation will help more Coloradans get the skills needed to launch rewarding careers in this growing industry. Lieutenant Governor Primavera and I were proud to support Arapahoe Community College’s application, and we congratulate ACC, the @GoCCCS, the Colorado Space Institute, and every employer, educator, and community partner who helped bring this opportunity to Colorado.

has anyone done or thought of doing anything like take the very best frontier LLM. put it in a radiation tolerant computer in high earth or lunar orbit powered by solar arrays. give it a simple persistent beacon so it pings earth for the next thousand years. how to rebuild civilization in a box.
