4/100 days @andyburnham. Please don’t disappoint our widows. Like Beverley, whose husband was killed in the 1994 crash on an aircraft that should never have left the ground. #chinookjustice

These are the 335 questions we say should be among those answered by an independent inquiry. @DefenceHQ has chosen to answer only 20 of them - and has taken almost a year - and counting - to do so.... static1.squarespace.com/stat… #chinookjustice 14/100 days left @andyburnham

Fourteen days to save 29 lives by doing the right thing and listening to your own experts. Sadly, that is not what happened at @DefenceHQ before the 1994 crash. It's why we need an independent review, and why the MoD marking its own homework again is unacceptable @andyburnham

The only way anyone will ever get justice from the MopD is ion there is a truly Independent Defence Authority that sits outside the MoD, is not funded by the MoD but is charged with holding and mandated in law to hold the MoD to account over personnel, veterans, investigations, procurement and more

So so so late to the party. A manifest sinner come to judgement.
BREAKING: Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP has strongly signalled that the UK will increase defence spending even further, saying “any lingering cosy assumptions about our defence and security are gone. So too is the post-Cold War peace dividend”. She said the UK must "face up to the need to do much more so we properly protect our citizens". Speaking after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, Ms Cooper said: “We discussed in the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting how Russia’s weakening on the battlefield against Ukraine is also making them more reckless and dangerous. “In the face of that threat and the ongoing global instability, the NATO Alliance is vital and enduring, but within it Europe and the UK must do more. We have already been stepping up with significantly increased defence investment. But we have to face up to the need to do much more so we properly protect our citizens. “Russia is now under huge pressure from Ukraine’s military response and from economic challenges, but that is making them more unpredictable with escalating attacks on Ukrainian civilians, increasing hybrid threats across the continent, and reports of drone incursions. The threat from Russia is increasing on air, land, sea, space, cyber and information warfare. “Any lingering cosy assumptions about our defence and security are gone. So too is the post-Cold War peace dividend. “That’s why we need to keep increasing our defence and security capabilities and maintain our support for Ukraine. NATO is the most successful defensive alliance in history and now we need to keep building a stronger Europe within NATO. The safety, stability and prosperity of our citizens depends upon it.”

I doubt we'll ever know the composition of that jury but it appears there's a good chance we now have decisions being made in British courts based on religion. Truly frightening.
So let me get this straight… In the UK you can go on a rampage at an Airport of all places, break a Women Police Officers Nose, punch a load of Police out and not be found guilty of any crime. But only if you’re a Muslim? Got it 👍

Dear Rachel, Here's the reality.... Last year I had 2 new tyres fitted to my van - £126. Today I had two new tyres fitted to the same van, same garage, same make of tyre - £165. 30% increase in one year. Diesel is up 35% since a couple of months ago. My van insurers want an extra £120 this year. I'm a Decorator and all the paint I use has had TWO price increases each year for the past few years. Some now costs approximately TWICE what it cost 6 years ago. Some trade paint is now over £100 for 5 litres. Yes it's better than cheap crap but that's a ridiculous price. But I'm just one bloke trying to earn a living. Millions are in the same boat as me. They can give you stories about the price of timber, plasterboard, electrical fittings, roof tiles and everything else they have to buy. Everything appears to be getting more difficult for everyone. In years gone by we didn't all have to worry about the cost of putting the heating on or how much we paid for the water that came out of our taps. We do now. We didn't have to search the shelves in the supermarkets for the cheapest (inferior) alternatives and we didn't get utterly ripped off when paying for parking in town centres. Our Council Tax bills, (or Rates as it used to be called), were equal to a small proportion of our income. And we got the bins emptied every week. We could actually buy rounds in the pub - Remember THAT? Many millions of people who frequented pubs can't afford to go there any more. Their village pub is probably shut now anyway. Our public services are overstretched. The NHS is ALWAYS on it's knees. Our roads are falling to bits. Parents can't get their kids into their local schools. Many people in villages, towns and cities are frightened to go out alone (or at all) due the numbers of undesirables roaming the streets and our parks. But it's OK. We're the Worlds 5th largest economy apparently and therefore a "rich" country compared to many. Perhaps that's why we can afford to give away ONE THOUSAND MILLION POUNDS every MONTH to countries who don't share our good fortune, or our wonderful public services or our national contentment in knowing we're nearly at the top of the tree. Is it any wonder that hundreds of thousands of people are just saying "bollocks to this" and either stopping work or buggering off to live somewhere else? My advice to any young person would be - Go! It might not work out for you but at least you've had a try, probably had some fun, learnt a lot about yourself and the World and maybe met someone you can share your life with. You can always come back again and help the local council empty the bins every 3 weeks.

We must remember those senior officers who took rank and pension, but chose silence as the nation’s defence capability declined. Leadership is not just about service—it’s about having the courage to speak when it matters.
Exclusive: Britain’s armed forces can only “think about” preparing for war as a lack of funding has left no money to buy new weapons until 2030, General Sir Richard Barrons tells @thetimes thetimes.com/article/3387f10…
