Anyone else breathe a sigh of relief when @Bisquick simplified the pancake and waffle recipes into a single recipe?

Several years ago, Forbes approached me with the opportunity to write a book, but I declined. I sensed that the Sky Zone story was still unfolding. And frankly, I didn’t feel like I had much to say. Since then, I’ve spent several years teaching at the BYU business school. Sharing the principles of entrepreneurship with my students helped me understand my own story more clearly. Meanwhile, the company weathered the storm of the pandemic, emerging stronger and reinforcing my confidence in its legacy and future.I also recognized a responsibility to document the rise of the trampoline park industry and the broader active entertainment movement, preserving its history for future generations. So when Forbes approached me again last year, I was in a different place. I was ready. The result is a dynamic blend of memoir and mentorship—a raw account of building Sky Zone, interwoven with the entrepreneurial insights I now impart to my students at BYU. This book is both a reflection on my journey and a guide for aspiring innovators. “Off The Ground” is now available for pre-order on Amazon. #offtheground #offthegroundbook #skyzone #Forbes #ForbesBooks #preordernow #BYU #byuentrepreneurship #byumarriottschool #entrepreneurship101

Perfectionists spend too much time on little differences at the margins at the expense of the important things. There are typically just five to ten important factors to consider when making a decision. It is important to understand these really well, though the marginal gains of studying even the important things past a certain point are limited. #principleoftheday

Shout out to @Uber for the ability to book rides from the same account on two different phones. Was worried my wife wouldn’t be able to book a driver through my account on her phone when we had to split up on a recent adventure.

Property taxes are too high, teachers are underpaid, & students are underperforming. The current model is broken. We need to move past yesterday’s “less vs. more funding” debate, and focus on making serious improvements to how our schools actually deliver education to students.

We are saddened by the passing of Jim Lovell, commander of Apollo 13 and a four-time spaceflight veteran. Lovell's life and work inspired millions. His courage under pressure helped forge our path to the Moon and beyond—a journey that continues today. go.nasa.gov/41tbrpq

A person making suggestions may not have concluded that a mistake will be made--they could just be making doubly sure that the person they're talking to has taken all the risks into consideration. Asking questions to make sure that someone hasn't overlooked something isn't the same thing as saying that he or she has overlooked it. Yet I often see people react to constructive questions as if they were accusations. That is a mistake. #principleoftheday

As we head into our 250th next year, I’ve written a short book, out in November, about the Declaration’s “We hold these truths” sentence, how Jefferson and Franklin and Adams crafted it, and how it can help help us find common ground today. amazon.com/Greatest-Sentence…

History shows us that having too much debt during an economic downturn leads to a classic, self-reinforcing cycle where: 1) The empire can no longer borrow the money to repay its debts 2) It prints a lot of new money, which devalues the currency and raises inflation 3) Living standards decline, leading to the rise of political extremism 4) Turbulent economic conditions undermine productivity and there is conflict about how to divide the shrinking resources 5) Populist leaders emerge pledging to take control and bring about order #principles #raydalio #history #debt

Hate to rain on the parade today, but these charts have me worried, and as far as I can tell we don’t have a good game plan for how to solve this. If I’m missing something, please let me know.

Ooh, I remember the joy of getting fresh chocolate chip cookies from Mrs Fields in the Orem mall as a kid.
Decades before Chip, Crumbl or Dirty Dough…..Debbi Fields opened her very first “Mrs Fields Chocolate Chippery” in 1977. Debbi had no previous business experience and struggled to raise start-up capital for her business. After several failed pitches to banks, she began bringing fresh cookies to the meetings, finally securing a $25,000 loan from Bank of America at 21% interest, which financed her first location. Although this first store was located in California, she soon moved the business headquarters to Utah and the Company has been based here ever since. Along with competitors Famous Amos and the Original Cookie Company, Mrs. Fields led the original fresh-baked cookie boom of the 1970’s, pioneering several innovative business moves: 1) Distributing free cookie samples; 2) Honing efficiently-sized locations in busy shopping malls; and 3) Donating day-old cookies to shelters and food banks in one of the first “purpose marketing” campaigns (think Tom’s Shoes). After initial growth focused exclusively on company-owned stories, the Company eventually embraced franchising in the 80’s that resulted in exponential growth. In many ways, fresh baked cookies are the perfect franchise business—minimal up-front capital investment and a tightly controllable final product. Similar business dynamics would drive the growth of Crumbl and other cookie brands decades later. By 1988, the Company had become a global brand with over 425 stores and eventually hit an enterprise value of over $425 million. Today, there are still 300 Mrs. Fields stores and the company is still headquartered in Salt Lake City. Historically, Utah is clearly the business capital of Cookies! #UtahBusinessHistory #Entrepreneurship101 #ThisIsThePlace #UtahCookieWars
