This Federal budget, CFIB is asking the government to reduce the all-time-high costs of doing business in Canada as a small firm with these four recommendations.
Strengthening these businesses, including CFIB members, will secure Canada’s economy in the face of uncertainty.

65% of B.C. businesses are now reporting fuel cost pressures as a major constraint. 📈
That's an increase of 35 points over the previous year—the largest of any province.
How much of those costs will be passed on to consumers? Read CFIB's Main Street Quarterly to find out!👇
Happy Thanksgiving, BC! 🍁

ALT CFIB graphic. 92% of B.C. small business owners aren't confident the provincial government has their back. More B.C. businesses have closed than opened for five straight quarters, and 56% of owners wouldn't advise anyone to start one now. Five priorities for the next government: 1. Lower the cost of doing business: cut the small business tax rate, now 2%, toward zero by 2030. 2. Hold the line on payroll costs: raise the Employer Health Tax exemption to $1.5 million. 3. Cut red tape: bring back a red tape minister and a two-for-one rule. 4. Get the province's books in order: a credible plan to eliminate a deficit of nearly $13.8 billion. 5. Repeal the PST expansion. These policies respond to key CFIB recommendations from our Red Tape Report Card and report on PST impacts for small businesses.
Removing the PST on capital investments could unlock up to $1.6B in new investment from SMEs alone. #bcpoli
BC Conservatives promise to supercharge BC economy via:
- 120 Day Permitting Act for Major Projects over $250 million.
- Scrap PST on investment machinery, equipment and business software for 3yrs
- Select a new Minister for of Red Tape Reduction (BC Liberal gov had one)
A youth employment tax credit is one of the key recommendations CFIB has made to help small businesses hire young workers. ✅
We’re glad to see all major parties have now made key commitments to such a tax credit! 👷 #bcpoli
NEW - @Dave_Eby says he'd offer $1m loans for up to 72 months for small and medium businesses hurt by US tariffs and elevated costs in BC. Plus a $5,000 refundable tax credit for businesses that employ a young person.
Taxing those trying to create or mend their own clothing isn't just a sustainability issue, it also hurts affordability.
"Julia Huggett, owner of Beehive Wool Shop on Douglas Street in Victoria, said supply-chain issues caused by global conflicts have already hiked the price of yarn, calling the PST “one more hit” for customers."
Now that the PST has been paused on professional services, the next B.C. government must unravel the tax on yarn, too. 🪡🧵 #bcpoli

Nearly half of BC small businesses say personal income taxes should be a top priority for tax cuts, not tax increases. 📈
BC has also de-indexed its tax brackets, meaning every person faces a hidden inflation tax increase each year.
The province is currently facing an entrepreneurial drought, with business exits outpacing business entries.
All parties should be focused on reducing the cost of doing business in BC to reveerse this trend. #bcpoli
Context: This would raise BC to the highest income tax rate since 1981, and make the province (by a decent margin) the highest tax rate jurisdiction in Canada. The gap with Alberta would be back at 1990s levels.
