Absolutely unbelievable. A federal judge ordered a stop to Trump's plan to overhaul mail-in voting, and according to a whistleblower at the U.S. Postal Service, Trump officials chose to disobey that order and kept working on it anyway. When a court says stop, and millions of votes could be affected, you stop. End of story. And what were they allegedly so determined to keep building? A system that could derail our entire elections, potentially causing millions of Americans to receive their ballots too late or not receive them at all. Ignoring a court order is unacceptable under any circumstances. Doing it while jeopardizing the American people's right to vote goes so far beyond that. Congress needs answers, and we need them NOW. We need to know who authorized this, who knew about it, and why anyone in this Administration thought they had a right to defy the court. If officials knowingly ignored a court order and put Americans' right to vote at risk in the process, there must be real consequences for everyone responsible. nytimes.com/2026/09/01/us/po…

Pritzker: So here’s the truth, plain and simple: Our state is under siege. Not by protesters, not by immigrants, not by the deep state, not by the press, not by Canada or Mexico or Greenland, not by Antifa or by Jewish space lasers or pride parades. No. Our state is under siege by a petty, corrupt man in Washington. A man who ran for president because he wanted to live in a palace and get rich or get richer. Our state is under siege by the skilled sycophants who surround that president and use his base desires as cover for their own destructive agendas. Our state is under siege by the many, many Republicans who are either too infatuated or too frightened to fight Donald Trump for the people they serve. And I mean Republicans like Darren Bailey. You can be a lot of things and still be an effective governor, but one thing you cannot be is a coward.

Pritzker: I have to worry about whether people can eat lettuce or blueberries off a grocery shelf because Trump is doing away with food inspections. I have to track measles outbreaks because the president put a madman in charge of vaccine recommendations. I have to monitor the movements of ICE agents because he handed guns to people who couldn’t pass a background check, frankly, to work in an animal shelter. I have to find money that we don’t have to fight problems that didn’t exist before Donald Trump. It’s the reality of being a governor in America today. I’m not the only one.

BREAKING: Doug Ford just unveiled a massive sign reading “Lake Ontario Now and Always” on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Trump would hate it if this went viral.

Trump said he was "draining the swamp" and fired 3,000 people at CDC... 3,500 at FDA... and 11,000 food safety officials. Now: 160+ food recalls... 24,000 sick... 740 hospitalized... and several dead. The corruption is killing us. Literally.

So it appears Lake Ontario is named as such in the Treaty of Canandaigua, signed by President George Washington and ratified by Congress in 1795.

APPLEBAUM: Instead of integrating drones, Hegseth is canceling drone battalion and talking about push-ups and facial hair. It’s really insane. I mean, if someone were paying him to undermine United States, or if he were a secret enemy, this is how he would behave. It's suicidal.

Home of the Brave put up 300 new billboards across 16 states as part of a new $1 Million extension to our Sticker Shock Summer Campaign! All summer long, Sticker Shock Summer has been educating Americans on the real cost of the Trump administration's policies.

The economics world is buzzing about the dustup started by @TheEconomist article below on @DAcemogluMIT. I have a few thoughts that I want to direct to my lay readers, or those who do not know the “inside baseball” of economics. Before those, I want to put my cards on the table. To my eye, Daron has changed the landscape of how we think about why nations succeed and fail. He is a scientist’s scientist; always ready to engage on the merits and have a back and forth to learn. Now the inside baseball stuff: for better or worse, we economists are trained, from our first year of grad school, to poke holes and try to improve each other's work. That’s how our whole ecosystem operates: seminars are 90 minutes of trying to break a paper (and I see that a lot here at @UChicago). We solicit referees to learn about potential flaws…in my three decades as a journal editor, I cannot recall a report ever saying "no flaws found, publish as is." Not for Nobelists, not for anyone. I have never viewed criticism as a scandal in economics. Rather, it is the ecosystem at work. It is how we control quality. Do a poll, get criticism. That's what we do. In this spirit, there is something oddly backwards in the coverage: this adversarial culture is a feature, not a bug. Consider when I served at the Council of Economic Advisers. Day to day, our most valuable contributions were stopping bad ideas from happening. Sure, we occasionally created and refined the good ideas, but a key CEA role was being the person in the room who would stand up and say "that is patently nonsense." No better person to play that role than an economist. And note what makes our system work: even when we criticize anonymously there is accountability. A referee must engage the actual paper, an editor judges the report, and the author can respond. Anonymous quotes over drinks have the anonymity without any of the accountability. That is how I interpret what is happening here with straw polling and cherry picking. Daron, regardless of how good he is (and I know he is very good because I have written lots with him), will receive criticism just like the rest of us, lock, stock, and barrel. And that is fine because a flaw count isn't a verdict.
No economist accuses him of truly poor research, let alone academic malpractice. But is Daron Acemoglu’s reputation justified by his scholarship? economist.com/finance-and-ec…

Paxton's own ex-wife' confirm that he moved out of that house. His own office published the rule he broke: "You must provide the address where you reside." Under Texas law, voting where you're ineligible is a second-degree felony carrying up to 20 years. MAGA says they want to...
