ALT A limey green background and text that reads: See You Around A letter from Jacqueline June 30, 2024 My time with Community Fridges HamOnt has come to an end. Because I’ve connected with so many of you and been referred to as “the founder”, I wanted to share a quick “see you around” (instead of “goodbye”). In the summer of 2020 we were in lockdown, and many of us were feeling the urgent need to support each other in whatever ways we could. At the time, for work, I was just house sitting for the family I nannied for, who was stuck abroad. I’m a food grower, passionate about food sovereignty. I have a busy brain and a little administrative experience. Community fridges felt like something I could help with. There was a group chat and then an Instagram. It was a bit of a slow start, but before we knew it, by the summer of 2021, we were operating three very busy 24/7 community fridges.

ALT Over a bright yellow background reads in dark blue and black bolded text: “WE NEED DONATIONS FOR OUR ASSISTIVE DEVICES LIBRARY!”. Below this in smaller blue text reads: “We are accepting sanitized/fully-functioning: wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs and other assistive devices. Connect with us to coordinate a drop-off at our Hamilton storage unit!”. To the right of this text is a clipart of a black walker and a black, grey and blue wheelchair. At the bottom in a blue text box with yellow letters reads: “EMAIL OR DM US!” with black text that says “info@djno” and “@djnontario” below it. To its right is the DJNO logo, which reads in dark blue “DISABILITY JUSTICE NETWORK of ONTARIO” with blue and yellow flower petals crowning over the top left corner of this text.

First section of yellow text: Collectively, we have a duty to shed light on the plight of Palestinians with disabilities and demand that those responsible for crimes against them are held accountable. Second section of white text: The human toll and magnitude of the atrocities being committed in Gaza does not leave room for indifference. Circle Icon of the Disability Pride Flag (desaturated black background with green, blue, white, yellow, and red stripes in a diagonal rainbow) overlapped with the Circle Icon of the Palestinian Flag (black, white, and green stripes with rightward facing red triangle on the left). ALT Food Security Organizations Coalition statement on the siege of Gaza. The denial of access to food and water is a violation of international humanitarian law relating to the protection of civilians in times of war, including the Geneva Conventions and their protocols. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the violence and the return of hostages and prisoners, as precursors to a just political process that will enable sustainable peace and security and build a basis for lasting food security. Finally, we call for the respect of international law and for an end to the use of food as a weapon of war.
