the media and the public who doesn’t follow eunwoo’s activities very closely during his time away from work should know that he’s done nothing but make us his fans feel immensely proud of him ♡
our eunwoo got accepted into one of south korea’s most prestigious military music units, becoming vocalist in the ministry of national defense military band. not even a week passed before his hard work and commitment got him a temporary position as company commander trainee, then he went on to reach the military ranks of private first class, corporal and now he’s become sergeant. in addition, we sometimes get stories about how gentle, kind and grounded he is ♥︎ it speaks louder than anything about the eunwoo they should actually know. we’re so proud of you eunwoo ♥︎
SERGEANT LEE DONGMIN with exceptional performance/ outstanding service
I couldn’t be more proud of you eunwoo 🥹
🎖️ According to recent official articles, Cha Eunwoo was promoted early to Sergeant. Under the standard schedule, he would typically hold the rank of Corporal at this stage of his service. However, the military's early promotion system allows soldiers with exceptional performance or outstanding service achievements to advance ahead of the regular timeline.
Congratulations Sergeant #CHAEUNWOO!
“Currently serving in the Ministry of National Defense Service Support Group, Cha Eunwoo served as the host for the military band concert 'New Beginning', held on the afternoon of the 4th at the Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the building's relocation.
After introducing himself as "Sergeant Lee Dongmin," Cha Eunwoo was introducing the next song when Queen's "We Are the Champions" began playing, prompting him to join in on stage and sing. He then drew enthusiastic cheers from the audience by singing solo sections during Cho Yong-pil's "Let's Go on a Trip."
As news of the performance spread, a large crowd of Ministry staff visited the venue to see Cha Eunwoo. When Cha Eunwoo left the main auditorium after the show, the lobby of the Ministry building was completely packed with staff who had gathered to get a glimpse of him.”

[📢] We address the misrepresentation of facts and poor handling of Cha Eunwoo’s tax assessment case by Fantagio
In April 2025, the Seoul Regional Tax Office's 4th Investigation Bureau launched a tax investigation targeting Chairman Namgoong Kyun over complex financial transactions across his core affiliates—Fantagio, Mirae ING, Namsan Group, and Incon—involving zero-capital M&As, issuance of convertible bonds, and circular cross-shareholdings. The investigation expanded to Eunwoo because Fantagio had entered into a management service contract with his corporation.
This background regarding how the "Artist-as-a-Corporation" became involved in the investigation has been widely misunderstood. While tax authorities initially examined the case, no charges were brought against Eunwoo, and the case was concluded as an additional tax assessment following a tax audit due to a difference in the interpretation of tax law with the National Tax Service.
Despite these facts, Fantagio has failed to provide a transparent official statement. Instead, in its own securities registration statement, the company presented the situation as follows:
“Cha Eunwoo Related Additional Tax Assessment Issue
Through media reports in January 2026, it was revealed that the Seoul Regional Tax Office collected additional taxes after determining that the company established by the mother of our artist Cha Eunwoo and our company had entered into a management service contract, applying corporate tax rates that are lower than personal income tax rates during the settlement process. Although the initial size of the additional tax notice for Cha Eunwoo was reported to be around 20 billion KRW, the actual remaining amount owed by Cha Eunwoo himself—excluding double taxation refunds on already paid corporate tax and value-added tax—was reported to be around 13 billion KRW. Cha Eunwoo fully paid the additional assessed amount on April 8, 2026, and posted an official statement via SNS.
Meanwhile, our company was also included in the tax investigation scope because we had entered into a management service contract with the corporation owned by Cha Eunwoo's mother regarding this matter. As a result of the tax audit on corporate taxes for 2020 through 2024, our company disclosed that we received an additional tax assessment of approximately 8.2 billion KRW from the Seoul Regional Tax Office on August 22, 2025. Out of this total assessment, 3.2 billion KRW was paid as of the filing date, and the remaining 5 billion KRW is scheduled to be paid by July 31, 2026”
For this reason, media reports continue to state that:
"In addition, recent tax risks involving artists under the agency have compounded, further increasing financial burdens. Fantagio previously executed a management service contract with a corporation established by the mother of its artist, Cha Eunwoo. With recent tax collection proceedings against Cha Eunwoo underway, Fantagio was likewise subjected to the tax audit.
According to a Pinpoint News article published on the 10th:
“Fantagio has recently been pushing for another paid-in capital increase through a general public offering. However, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) halted Fantagio's move by demanding a correction to their securities registration statement. Shareholder dissatisfaction is also growing.
According to the FSS's electronic disclosure on the 6th, Fantagio recently received a request from the FSS to submit an amended securities registration statement for their public offering. The FSS pointed out that Fantagio’s statement contained false statements or omissions of material information.
It was reported that if Fantagio fails to submit the corrected statement by this coming October, the validity of the securities registration statement for the paid-in capital increase will be suspended”
Based on the facts above, Fantagio’s securities registration statement contains statements that are false regarding Eunwoo’s tax assessment case.

I’ve been reading a lot of the articles and opinions about Eunwoo’s Tax Tribunal appeal, and I’d like to share my thoughts ⬇️
I keep coming back to one simple thought. Everyone deserves the right to due process.
Eunwoo didn’t refuse to pay. He paid the full assessment first and then exercised the legal right that Korean tax law gives every taxpayer. The ability to ask the Tax Tribunal to independently review whether the assessment was correct.
I’ve seen people suggest that paying first and appealing afterward somehow makes the appeal suspicious, but that’s actually how the Korean tax appeal system works.
When late payment penalties accrue every day, paying first to stop those penalties and then exercising your legal right to appeal is following the procedure the law provides.
His apology also doesn’t contradict that. Taking responsibility for oversight is very different from saying you must accept every legal conclusion or calculation without question. Those two things can absolutely coexist.
I’ve also seen people speak as though Investigation Division 4’s assessment is the final word. But they investigate and issue assessments. They are NOT the final legal authority. And they can and have been wrong before.
The very reason the Tax Tribunal exists is because those assessments can be challenged when a taxpayer believes they’re legally or factually incorrect. It is a right available to every citizen under Korean law.
Artists work incredibly hard for what they earn. Like anyone else, they deserve the right to protect their hard earned income by using the legal processes available to them when they believe an assessment is incorrect.
As a fan, I support Eunwoo’s right to due process and am hopeful the Tribunal will reach a fair decision based on the law and the facts. 🤍

📰 ‘Respecting the National Tax Service’s Results’, Cha Eunwoo’s Appeal… Why He Paid 13 Billion KRW in Full Yet Challenges the ‘Tax Assessment’
“Singer and actor Cha Eunwoo has filed an appeal against the National Tax Service’s (NTS) tax assessment after paying all of the approximately 13 billion KRW in additional tax penalties. It is reported that in early last month, Cha Eunwoo submitted a petition to the Tax Tribunal requesting the cancellation of the NTS's tax assessment amounting to approximately 13 billion KRW. The petition was reportedly submitted ahead of the 90-day appeal deadline, which runs from the date he received the tax notice from the NTS.
A tax tribunal is a procedure in which taxpayers ask the Tax Tribunal to evaluate a case before filing a court lawsuit if they determine that the NTS's tax assessment is unlawful or unfair. Therefore, Cha Eunwoo paying the additional taxes first and then requesting a tax tribunal is not a contradictory action. Cha Eunwoo’s side chose the method of fulfilling the tax payment obligation first while separately disputing the legality of the tax assessment.
Previously, in January, Cha Eunwoo became embroiled in a tax dispute when it was revealed that he had been notified by the NTS of an income tax assessment totaling around 20 billion KRW. Tax authorities reportedly took issue with the service contract and profit-sharing structure established between Fantagio and a corporation founded by Cha Eunwoo’s mother. It was reported that the authorities judged the corporation was intended to apply a corporate tax rate—which is lower than personal income tax rates—to Cha Eunwoo's income without providing substantive business operations.
However, this is the tax authorities' assessment. With Cha Eunwoo's side filing for a tax tribunal, a final conclusion regarding the ‘legality’ of the tax assessment has not yet been reached. Initially, the notification amount exceeded 20 billion KRW, but after reflecting previously paid corporate and value-added taxes, the actual payment amount was adjusted to approximately 13 billion KRW. Cha Eunwoo paid this amount in full.”

such a brave decision. he is totally in the right. the world still owes him an apology and some others still need to be legally sued after how they tried to ruin his image. i’m so proud of you eunwoo 🥺🤍 my chest is filled with pride and admiration for who you are
📰 [EXCLUSIVE] It has been confirmed that singer and actor Cha Eunwoo filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal against the National Tax Service (NTS) after paying approximately 13 billion KRW (~$10 million USD) in unpaid back taxes.
According to a comprehensive investigation by Edaily on the 2nd, Cha Eunwoo submitted a tax appeal to the Tax Tribunal early last month, arguing that the NTS's tax assessment of around 13 billion KRW was unfair. The appeal was filed right before the expiration of the deadline, which is restricted to "within 90 days" from the date of receiving the tax notice.
Cha Eunwoo’s agency, F* stated, “(Cha Eunwoo) filed for a tax appeal in accordance with legal procedures to receive a formal legal judgment,” adding, “As this is an ongoing matter, it is difficult to disclose specific details at this time.”
...An appeal is an administrative tribunal process in which a taxpayer requests the government to cancel a tax assessment on the grounds that the NTS’s imposition of taxes was incorrect. This marks the beginning of 'Round 2' of the tax battle between Cha Eunwoo and the NTS.
Industry insiders analyze that Cha Eunwoo's strategy of paying the full tax amount before filing an appeal was aimed at avoiding the heavy burden of "late payment penalties." If back taxes are not paid within the deadline after receiving a notice, a late penalty of 0.022% per day (approx. 8% annually) is incurred. If 13 billion KRW remains unpaid, the daily late charge alone exceeds 2.8 million KRW (~$2,100 USD). It is interpreted that he paid the taxes first and spent about 90 days deciding whether to file an appeal.
Reactions within the tax industry regarding Cha Eunwoo's appeal are divided. An industry insider noted, "It is a legitimate exercise of rights as a taxpayer," adding, "Even after paying the tax, an appeal can be filed if additional evidence or logic proving the unfairness of the taxation has been reinforced"...
The Tax Tribunal's final decision is highly likely to come after Cha Eunwoo completes his military service in January next year. According to the Tax Tribunal Annual Statistics, internal tax cases involving amounts between 10 billion and 20 billion KRW took an average processing time of 507 days in 2024 and 353 days in 2025, taking roughly around one year.
If the Tax Tribunal rules in Cha Eunwoo's favor, he will receive a refund for the paid taxes. If the appeal is rejected, he can file a formal lawsuit in the Administrative Court.
— NOTE: We have omitted everything sensationalized in the article to focus solely on his right as an ordinary Korean citizen to appeal the decision of the National Tax Service, and we must emphasize that several experts have previously stated that Cha Eunwoo has a high probability of winning, which would be the first step toward clearing his name.
