What makes #Astros and Carlos Correa reunion attractive? - Correa is a homegrown Astro, team knows him, he knows organization, re-acclimation process should be easy - #Twins are for sale, they are cutting costs, they will likely have to pay down some of his deal - since May 1, Correa is hitting .291/.345/.417 with a .762 OPS - Correa's contract isnt nearly as bad as you may think: Breakdown: Correa is "technically" signed for 7 more years, but in reality, its really only 3, the final four years are all vesting years. His contract is also descending So while Correa makes $37M this season, he makes $33M next year, then $32M then $31M - this takes him through his age 33 season Then the vesting years hit In order for his 2029 salary to vest, he would need either 575 PA in 2028, a Top 5 MVP finish, or to win a silver slugger, ALCS MVP or WS MVP It would be a salary of $25M In order for his 2030 salary to vest, he would need at least 550 PA, or a Top 5 MVP, SS,ALCS MVP or WS MVP salary would be $20M for 2031 same applies but with 525 PA or one of the other previously stated conditions, salary $5M. for 2032 its 502 PA, or other previously stated awards, salary $10M If ANY of those years don't vest, the deal converts to a CLUB OPTION, so team can choose to keep him or bail on deal as he gets older if production wanes - Correa and his family still live in Houston Lot of positives for Correa to come back, plus Paredes is capable of playing 2B if Twins pay down at least a third of Correa's guaranteed portion of his deal (next 3 years $96M - so $32M pay down) plus 1/3 of what hes owed the rest of this season ($12.44M so $4.15M) that is a solid contract for the Astros. - as they would essentially pay Correa 8M more for this year and roughly 23/22/21 the next 3 years. Its a go for it deal, but Correa is also an elite glove and cannon arm, and for a team thats designed on run prevention, hes an excellent fit. Plus hes previously demonstrated clutch gene and postseason prowess. bring him home.
