Thank goodness for this calm and considered voice of reason
This morning I spoke with Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy. In both conversations, we focused on the rapidly evolving situation around energy and the war in Ukraine. The new energy ceasefire being brokered by President Trump between Russia and Ukraine has the potential to significantly de-escalate the war and protect thousands of civilians from harm and hardship. Canada calls on Russia to uphold this agreement as we keep working with our Allies to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe.

Our first Alfred Janes event, held in London, was a great success. Here is the artist’s daughter Hilly Janes with me and Richard Davies of Parthian Books holding the first ever monograph on the ‘maker of pictures’.

I recently delivered the centenary lecture 'Robert Thomas (1926-99), Sculptor of Wales' at the National Library of Wales to an in-person and online audience. Here’s the small display shown there of 4 of his sculptures & my triple portrait painting of him, all owned by the NLW.

I am in the final stages of writing a monograph on Alfred Janes (1911-99) to be published next autumn by Parthian Books. Here is a quirky painting by him titled 'Quixote' but looking rather seasonal. Merry Christmas 2025 and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year 2026 to you all.

Peter Wakelin’s fascinating @Art_CASW talk on the artist William Brown (1953-2008) was held on 6 December in Cardiff — Isabel Davies introduced Peter and I gave the vote of thanks. He and I and Rudy the art-loving dog are pictured together at the event.
Members of CASW had a wonderful morning enjoying a talk on artist William Brown by Peter Wakelin. Professor Tony Curtis read a Bear Poem and brought along a painting gifted to him by Brown. Great conversation, a lovely buffet, mince pies – and a barked applause from Rudy the dog
