Day 19 of OCTO-ber is the plain-body octopus (Callistoctopus aspilosomatis). Callistoctopus aspilosomatis is a fascinating Indo-Pacific octopus. Interestingly enough, researchers used this species to test whether octopuses felt their arms using the rubber hand illusion. Read more about this #experiment in OCTOPUS X.

Day 18 of OCTO-ber and things are getting spooky with the #vampire #squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis). Okay, technically not an octopus. Not technically a squid, either. 🧛♂️ The vampire squid lives in the deep ocean, and has one of the best scientific names in the #sea. OCTO-ber gets weird. OCTOPUS X gets weirder. It's day 17 of OCTO-ber and we have the California two-spot octopus (Octopus bimaculoides). This octopus is common in the #laboratory and was the first octopus to have its #genome fully sequenced. Two distinctive blue-black spots sit just behind its eyes. You can read more about how this octo is making an impact in my upcoming book OCTOPUS X: amazon.com/dp/1642834408?lv=…

Day 16 if OCTO-ber is the gloomy octopus (Octopus tetricus)! These octopuses became famous as the citizens of #octopolis and #octlantis, the two octopus "cities" found in #australia. But they're not the only octopuses known to tolerate each other (though punching is somewhat common). Read more about other octopus groups in OCTOPUS X.
