CAFMA and Volunteers Install Free Smoke Alarms in More Than 50 Prescott Homes: On Saturday, September 19, 2026, volunteers committed their morning to installing smoke alarms as part of the CAFMA Community Smoke Alarm Walk, a collaboration between the CAFMA, the Arizona Burn Foundation, and @RedCrossAZ . Volunteers, including community members, CAFMA families, and the crew of CAFMA Engine 51, tested existing smoke alarms and installed 46 new standard smoke alarms in 53 homes. Along the way, they also educated residents about smoke alarm safety (test your smoke alarms once a month!) and the importance of creating and practicing a fire escape plan (entire family should practice at least twice a year!). CAFMA extends their sincere thanks to the Arizona Burn Foundation, the American Red Cross Arizona, and the dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time to support the Prescott community. A special thank you to B&W Fire Security for providing breakfast and lunch. #FireSafety

We got off to a strong start with the first-ever CAFMA Lateral Academy! Week 1 included radio familiarity, a run through the maze, and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) training—an important skill for operating in our rugged terrain.   With remote areas throughout our 369-square-mile service area, our crews sometimes need to take emergency response off pavement. UTVs help our firefighters reach patients and people in need across terrain that can be difficult to navigate with traditional emergency vehicles.

The terrain may change, but the mission doesn’t. We’re looking forward to the weeks ahead! #OffRoad

On September 11, 2001, countless heroes answered the call, risking everything to save lives and bring hope and comfort during the darkest of moments. There’s not a day that goes by that we do not remember and honor their courage and sacrifice. “One fireman stopped to take a breath, and we looked each other in the eye. He was going to a place where I was damn well trying to get out of. I looked at him thinking, ‘What are you doing this for?’ He looked at me like he knew very well. ‘This is my job.’” — Louis G. Lesce, Survivor, 86th floor of the North Tower #NeverForget
