Q: “I have a question. Greatest player of all time, Messi or Cristiano?"
Joe Opio: “I'm closer to Ronaldo ability wise than Ronaldo is to Messi.” 😂😭

The refereeing Liverpool have been subjected to, particularly at Anfield, is genuinely staggering. And I’m tired of legitimate criticism being dismissed as “sour grapes” before anyone even bothers to look at the evidence.
Paul Tomkins has researched this extensively, going back decades and some of his findings are genuinely ridiculous.
Consider these stats from his April 2026 study:
• ZERO opposition players have received a foul-related DOGSO red card at Anfield since 2009. That’s 325 home league games without an opponent being sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity through a foul.
• 3 Liverpool players received DOGSO red cards at Anfield in just 28 games under Slot. More than opposition players received at Anfield in the previous 25 years combined.
• Liverpool haven’t received a penalty in the opening 15 minutes of a league match with fans present since December 2012. Man City received 14 (!!) in that same period.
• Liverpool went 305 consecutive league matches between 2015 & 2023 without an opposition player receiving a 2nd yellow. That’s 8 years. Home or away.
• Since VAR was introduced, Liverpool have received just 2 VAR-awarded penalties for fouls. Man City received 11. Liverpool have also had 7 awarded against them.
• Liverpool received ZERO subjective VAR overturns in their favour before the 28th minute across approximately 260 matches. Man United received 7, Arsenal 6 & Man City 6.
• Salah averaged just 0.83 fouls won per 90 minutes, ranking outside the top 2,000 players in Tomkins’ study. Anyone who watched Salah knows how ridiculous that is given how frequently he’s grabbed, pulled & manhandled.
• Liverpool’s average foul free-kicks won dropped from around 12-13 per game before Klopp to just 9 after his arrival. Only Sheffield United recorded fewer in Tomkins’ comparison.
• Only 51% of Liverpool’s penalties were awarded at Anfield, compared to approximately 63% at home across the league. Some home advantage, eh?
And perhaps the most damning stat of all:
Of the 56 highly contentious league incidents Tomkins identified against Liverpool in the VAR era, 53 (95%) happened when the match was level or separated by just 1 goal.
These are game-changing decisions. Penalties, red cards & incidents that can genuinely decide matches, title races & entire seasons.
Think about Tarkowski’s challenge on Mac Allister, Ødegaard practically playing basketball at Anfield, Senesi’s handball or Salah getting manhandled every other week without a whistle. Oh, and literally disallowing a completely valid goal at Tottenham (no, YOU let it go).
At what point do we stop pretending this is normal?
And what frustrates me most is how quickly people dismiss the conversation as “sour grapes.” As if being a Liverpool supporter somehow invalidates the evidence. You can be biased & still be absolutely right.
I’m not suggesting these stats automatically prove some grand conspiracy, but the disparities are extraordinary. And when you actually watch the incidents themselves, it’s difficult to understand how some of these decisions are even possible.
We’re talking about penalties & red cards. Literally the most consequential decisions a referee can make. And somehow Liverpool consistently find themselves on the wrong end of them, even at Anfield - especially at Anfield - where we’re supposedly benefiting from this enormous home advantage.
Why shouldn’t that be questioned?
Credit to Paul Tomkins for actually doing the research & documenting this over the years.

But sure, “sour grapes.”

Two things I want to point out with this BOAT nonsense 😭
1. You’re foolish if you actually used your money to vote for that thing, no matter the fanbase you belong to. I mean, very foolish. They just used you as a money-making scheme. WTF is BOAT?😭
If you’re a Messi fan, you’re even more stupid if you paid to vote that nonsense. As a Messi fan, you should understand that the person you’re supporting got nothing to prove.
He has the upper hand in EVERYTHING. They’re chasing him. The Ronaldo fanbase are the ones looking for validations and they’ll latch on anything they can, just to prove to you. Let me remind you of the person you’re supporting because you forgot.
Messi has;
-More trophies
-More BDOR
-More World Cups
-More Golden Boots
-More Head to Head wins
-More finals goals
-More world cup goals
-More World Cup Golden Balls
-More World Cup finals
-More world cup assists
-More free kick goals
-More successful dribbles completed (the gap is so wide😂. 4,105 Vs 1,963, tears man)
-More chances created (the gap is extraordinary)
-More non-penalty goals
-More goals in Europe top 5 leagues
-More outside-the-box goals
-More goals per game (0.79 to 0.73, also minutes per goal is 104 minutes per goal, compared to 111.5 per minutes ---This is even an area he lost every flair so he could be number one, still Messi is a better scorer, and did not lose the flair, the dribbles, the chance creation...still does every other thing😂😂)
-More assists (427 - 261, I need to be adding laughing emojis sorry😂)
-More key passes (I cannot even fathom this gap, 2147 Vs 1319)
-More match wins/win percentage
-More MOTM (465 - 231)😂😂
-Higher Average Match rating
Like Messi does not need you to be paying money, you’re embarrassing.
Let’s even go into context of the BOAT, If you watched the video I attached, you would even see the two years in review, and then you ask yourself if this should be a debate at all😅. That just tells you how you foolishly enriched Ballon D’or organisers. They used your money to pay for the hall they used in London on Monday😅
For the lazy ones that can’t watch the video.
Ronaldo 2008 v Messi 2012
a. Ronaldo 35 goals v Messi 91 goals (can you see the gap? You see you’re a retard for voting right? Does this even require a vote😅)
b. Ronaldo 12 assists v Messi 22 assists
c. Ronaldo 47 G/A v Messi 113 G/A
d. Ronaldo 1 hat trick v Messi 9 hat tricks
e. Ronaldo 5 free kick goals v Messi 7 free kick goals
f. Ronaldo 13 MOTM v Messi 35 MOTM
These are their individual stats. Can you see the gap Messi gave him in everything? So why are you joining such things with your money? I also heard you can vote multiple times, these guys will do it, they need something.
2. If you’re a Ronaldo fan and they bant you with the fact that he stopped dribbling in 2008, or if they bant you by saying, “if they ask you to bring a Ronaldo highlight, you’ll go back to 2008”, I hope you can understand. Same 2008 was voted by your fanbase as the best of the best. That means you guys know.
For me, if I was going to use my money to vote for Ronaldo, I’m definitely going with Ronaldo’s 2017. The 16/17 season was madness, but what do I know. The 2008 bias where many people fell in love with the dribbling, hairstyle, showboating, and those rawness, can’t be erased from people’s minds.
In summary, you just enriched the BDOR, remember Markovnikov’s rule in chemistry, rich will become richer, poor will become poorer😭 how can you be giving these folks money? People who already have the money, to prove what?

🚨🗣️ 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Cristiano Ronaldo declares himself the MOST COMPLETE PLAYER IN FOOTBALL HISTORY!
“If someone prefers Messi, Pelé or Maradona, that’s a matter of personal taste. I RESPECT THAT.
“But to say Cristiano Ronaldo is NOT a complete player is a LIE.
“I AM THE MOST COMPLETE PLAYER.”
