I built puzzleinbox,com to $130k MRR and now we’re building glasa.io.
We’ve spoken with VCs about raising but with high margins we realised we’re in a position where we can keep bootstrapping if we want
So far we’ve put around $75k of our own money into Glasa
If I had to start from 0 again here’s exactly what I’d do
1. Think about distribution before product
A lot of founders spend months building something and only start thinking about customers when it’s ready
We did the opposite
Before Glasa was polished we already knew who we wanted to sell to and how we were going to reach them
2. Pick a problem people already spend money on
Revenue generation is not a nice to have
Companies already spend thousands on lead data inboxes outreach software SDRs agencies and enrichment
We didn’t need to convince people the problem existed
We just needed to solve it better
3. Talk to customers before building everything
A lot of Glasa came from seeing the same problems over and over again
Too many tools
Too much setup
Bad data
Complicated outbound
No idea what is actually generating revenue
20 conversations with real customers will teach you more than another month sitting in Figma
4. Sell the outcome
Nobody wakes up wanting another piece of software
They want more leads
More meetings
More pipeline
More revenue
Once we started thinking like this a lot of product decisions became much easier
5. Use your own product
We used Glasa ourselves before properly pushing it
That showed us what was actually useful and what sounded good on paper but nobody really needed
It also meant we were finding problems before our customers did
6. Keep the team small
A small team with the right people can move incredibly fast
You don’t need 30 employees when you’re starting
You need people who can build sell and make decisions without everything becoming a meeting
7. Put your own money behind it
We’ve invested around $75k of our own money into Glasa
We’ve also spoken with VCs and raising is still an option
But because the margins are high we don’t need to raise just to keep the company alive
Being able to choose whether you raise is a much better position than needing to raise
8. When something works push harder
The product wasn’t perfect and it still isn’t
But people wanted it
Instead of disappearing for another 6 months to make everything perfect we kept selling talking to customers and improving it
We’re still extremely early and there’s a lot we want to build
But if I had to start again I’d spend much less time trying to make everything perfect
And much more time getting something useful in front of real customers
