BREAKING: Gun violence is actually worse in RED states and it’s not even close according to a new analysis. Southern politicians, including Republican governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott, have blamed crime in Democratic-run cities like New York for being out of control. However, statistics show that New York City region has the lowest rates of gun violence in the US mainland, while the southern swath of the country has the highest rates. Those living in rural areas of South Carolina are more likely to die from gunshot wounds than those in equally rural areas of New York. The highest rates of deadly gun violence occur in regions where Republicans have long dominated state governments. “The Deep South is the most deadly of the large regions at 15.6 per 100,000 residents followed by Greater Appalachia at 13.5. Yankeedom is the next safest at 8.6, which is about half that of Deep South,” writes journalist Colin Woodard. Maybe it’s time we take common sense Gun laws seriously? It’s time to win the debate. Let’s expand background checks and pass an assault weapons ban. Let’s curb ghost guns, ban high-capacity magazines, fight gun trafficking, and lengthen the review window for existing background checks. We know the problem. It’s the guns.
