I not infrequently see an argument that goes: "Making ethical NLP (or "AI") systems is too hard because humans haven't agreed on what is ethical/moral/right" This always feels like a cop-out to me, and I think I've put my finger on why: >>

I’m doing a talk at the @roromelb and @rorosyd (temporarily) joint online meetup tomorrow at 6pm (AEDT)! I’ll be doing some live coding! Come along and wish me luck. Talk title: “Github CoPilot will make you 35% faster*”
And yes, it is definitely tomorrow (a Tuesday) not the usual day for Melbs (this is mainly a reminder for myself) (yes, I’ve set an alarm so I don’t forget)

For Women's History Month, it seems my tech brethren have revisited the subject that "women just don't like tech". I encourage you to watch my talk Coding Future Coders. It's <30 mins and you'll get credit for doing something to observe the month infoq.com/presentations/kids…

Coding the Future Coders

Angie Jones shares ways to give the joy of coding to others; techniques on how to expose kids to complex topics such as ML, mobile dev, game design, and web animation with hands-on exercises.

If anyone has a talk they’d like to share for RORO next week, let us know!
RORO Melbourne@roromelb17 Nov 2020
We still have space for another talk next week. Get in touch if you have something you’d like to share!
I scrolled back in the calendar to see how far it would go. It got to year 1 (twice) then started counting up again. It reached 4712 then repeated Jan/Feb/March. And it is stuck back there. Even if I turn it off and on again. I’m going to have to scroll all the way back.
