If I pay for make up and it doesnāt come out well on camera because Iām not āa brideā⦠Iām gonna whoop your ass
The reason why there is a markup is because makeup artist use certain products and techniques for brides. The same way TV makeup needs certain techniques to show up on camera correctly. Thereās extra step for prep on wedding days. Normally at a makeup appointment you come with your face clean, but on wedding days, the MUA will clean it for you and do your facial and even trim your eyebrows.
Why is this not common sense?

Ive said for years that I think white parents do their kids a better service socially by allowing their children to date with GUIDANCE. My classmates got to attend family dinners, chaperoned hangouts, etc. They werent shamed out of normal emotions like being attracted to someone. It was all shame for me and my friends from our parents. And it left us unprepared for the world.

No. That doesnāt take away that SHE should have been checking HER childās homework.
Two college educated parents, proclaimed to the principal she is a NYT writer, all them books in that house. They have one child. The homework should have been checked nightly. Period.
Stop it.

I'll be honest.
The number of educated Black women who think that "representation" and having their kids hair affirmed is more important than teaching their kids how to read and do math is not negligible.

they purposefully didnt tell their child abt the SHSATā¦ā¦ā¦ when a big reason the schools are skewed towards admitting white and asian students is a lack of awareness abt the test and preparation for it. thatās actually insane.

i do wanna know why she just didnāt put her kid in private school and in jack and jill like every other upper middle class black family outside of feeding her own ego lol

Guys, Iāma save yall the think pieces. She thought she could help them kids with her social mobility & then neglected her kid by keeping her in that school. The END.

like she keeps going "i could fix the system, i had to live my ideology for book tours" then her daughter is like "hey mom they don't give us homework, i can't do algebra" and she's like, don't worry mommy will send a sternly worded email reminding them i write for the nytimes

Wow I came into this article a little sympathetic but was blown away by the selfishness of the author tbh
She lives in a giant Dumbo loft wearing designer. But when itās time to make sacrifices for equality, itās quite easy for her to let her daughter take the hit!

the one last thing iāll say about the nikole hannah-jones piece.
as someone who was homeschooled, i can assure you that Many people are sacrificing their childrenās education on the altar of their political convictions.

the concept of sending my child to a poorly performing school as some sort of performative progressive act, and then seemingly failing to make sure she was meeting or exceeding benchmarks, is simply not something i would ever do. but we all make our own choices in this life.

āParent too busy writing NYT thinkpieces to check any of her kidās work until approx age 14ā is just an amazing concept to sit with

This entire Nicole Hannah-Jones thing can be summed with:
You cannot individually solve systemic problems.
