David Lynch wrote a weekly comic that was cancelled after criticism of Fire Walk with Me. What do we lose when we censor art that shows us the harsh realities of human nature? I discuss this and more w/ The Full Blossom of the Evening. fullblossomoftheeveningpodca…

Laws enacted "for the sake of children" impose unreasonable restrictions on adults as well. This is a recurring phenomenon in countries that have moved ahead with such measures. We must not blindly imitate them simply by taking their appealing slogans at face value.
Steam is now rolling out age verification in Australia for R18+ games, and the method Valve chose is already getting a lot of people annoyed. The system asks users to add a credit card to prove they’re 18 or older and people don’t have a credit card and normally use debit cards instead. Certain debit cards actually work and others not depending on the bank, which makes the whole system even more confusing. And there’s another issue, people say they can be blocked from even viewing the store page for games they already own, including games like Cyberpunk 2077. I understand that Valve need to follow Australia’s new age-verification rules, but making a credit card the main way to prove you’re an adult when for some people their account is over 18 years old feels unnecessary

It's encouraging to see full rooms for Meow Wolf, David Lynch, CBLDF, etc. It almost seems like a slight art/comics renaissance is happening at #SDCC. #comiccon
