Hey @paddypower why donโt you make an amusing video about this ? ๐ค
A gardenerโs iPad showed sheโd won ยฃ1.1 MILLION on a Paddy Power game. They paid her ยฃ20,265.14 and said the screen was wrong. Four and a half years later, a High Court judge ruled the screen was right.
โ Corrine Durber was a gardener from Gloucestershire, England.
โ In October 2020 she was playing a Paddy Power game called Wild Hatter on her iPad. It combines a fruit machine with a wheel-of-fortune bonus round.
โ She won the first stage, moved to the next level, and spun the jackpot wheel.
โ The screen showed the โMonster Jackpotโ of ยฃ1,097,132.71.
โ She took a screenshot.
โ Paddy Power paid her ยฃ20,265.14, the amount for the smaller โDaily Jackpot,โ and gave no explanation.
โ She complained to the company the same evening.
โ Paddy Power said a programming error had made the screen show the wrong prize. Its random number generator, it said, had only selected the Daily Jackpot.
โ Its terms and conditions said the generatorโs result was final and that it wasnโt liable for system errors.
โ That was the whole problem. Paddy Power wrote the game, ran the software that picked the result, wrote the rules, and then decided which number counted when its own screen disagreed with its own system.
โ A prediction market doesnโt work that way. Thereโs no house writing the game or choosing the result afterward.
โ You trade against another person at a price someone actually agreed to, and your payout comes from the person on the other side, not from a company deciding the number on your screen was a mistake.
โ She sued for breach of contract.
โ In March 2025, Mr Justice Ritchie granted summary judgment in her favor, so there was no full trial.
โ His 62-page ruling found that human error in mapping the gameโs software caused the on-screen result to differ from the generatorโs. It affected 14 plays over 48 days.
โ The judge said customers expect the house to pay if they bet on number 13 and the ball lands on 13.
โ He found the terms unfair and unenforceable under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and not part of her contract.
โ He also said it was unfair to place all the risk on the consumer for the companyโs own errors, negligence, and inadequate testing.
โ She said the judge confirmed she had โfairly and squarely won ยฃ1 MILLION.โ
โ She said Paddy Power had โtried their very best to deny me my rightful winnings.โ
โ She said she would never bet with them again.
A gardener hit ยฃ1.1 MILLION on her iPad, was paid ยฃ20,000 instead, and spent four and a half years in court proving the screen was right.

If you were born between 1992 and 1999, studies show you got the rarest version of childhood.
People born between 1992 and 1999 belong to a unique micro-generation known as Zillennials. They experienced a rare cultural sweet spot because they are the last group to remember a fully analog childhood but the first to navigate a completely digital adolescence.
During their early years, life was fundamentally unplugged. They played outside until the streetlights came on, watched movies on VHS tapes, and used landlines to call friends. Entertainment required physical presence and imagination, creating a childhood detached from constant public scrutiny or online validation.
As they entered middle and high school, the world shifted beneath them. They witnessed the birth of the modern internet, the launch of the first smartphones, and the rise of early social media platforms like Myspace and Facebook. They did not grow up with tablets as toddlers, but they were tech-savvy enough to adopt new devices instantly as teenagers.
This specific timing created a generation that acts as a linguistic and cultural bridge. They understand the slow pace of the pre-internet era, yet they are entirely fluent in modern digital culture. This dual perspective gives them a rare form of adaptability, allowing them to relate equally to older adults and younger digital natives.
