A majority of the 635 children held in Israeli prisons in 2025 were put in solitary confinement, usually for between one and two weeks – some up to eight times.
92 per cent of those children had not been sentenced.
A third had not even been charged with an offence.
The world's highest court says Israel is an apartheid state. Its decades-long occupation is illegal.

Yesterday in Liverpool, far-right racists chanted “Deport the fucking lot” and “Allah, Allah, who the fuck is Allah?” outside a kebab shop.
This isn’t legitimate protest; it’s racist hate, and no one should have to put up with it in multicultural Britain.

Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.

⭕️ Zaha Hassan, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told TRT World that President Trump and Jared Kushner’s “Board of Peace” is not rebuilding Gaza but already advancing plans to confiscate Palestinian land and assets for private investors.
🔹Hassan said documents are being drafted to seize private Palestinian property, while unpublished Board of Peace resolutions could allow it to take control of public land and facilities, accounting for roughly 35% of Gaza.
🔹She warned that the redevelopment plans promoted by Kushner would require the mass displacement of Palestinians into smaller enclaves while Gaza’s land, gas reserves, and other assets are transferred into a trust serving investors and business interests.
“Commercial diplomacy is a euphemism,” Hassan said of US’s approach. “I would say what it is is grand theft.”
One year ago today, on October 9, 2025, we reached an agreement on President Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza many believed impossible.
After two years of devastating war, the agreement created a path to reunite hostage families with their loved ones, bring security to Israel, relieve the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and build a different future for the region.
One year later, it’s remarkable how much has changed. The situation is far from perfect, but the progress is real, and the world is better for it.
A look at the past year:
✅October 9, 2025: Hamas accepts President Trump’s 20-point peace plan, launching a ceasefire that has largely endured for a year.
✅October 12, 2025: Israeli forces complete first withdrawal to the agreed yellow line.
✅October 13, 2025: All 20 living Israeli hostages return home. Something many believed would never happen.
✅November 17, 2025: UN Security Council passes Resolution 2803, endorsing the peace plan and authorizing an international stabilization framework and the Board of Peace.
✅January 5, 2026: UN reports 100% of basic food needs being met in Gaza for the first time since 2023.
✅January 17, 2026: National Committee for the Administration of Gaza established, creating a Palestinian technocratic administration focused on restoring essential services and rebuilding Gaza.
✅January 26, 2026: Remains of the final deceased hostage returned. For the first time since 2014, no Israeli hostages, living or deceased, in Gaza.
✅February 19, 2026: The Board of Peace holds its inaugural meeting, hosted by Chairman President Trump. Landmark partnership with FIFA announced, including a $50 million commitment toward a football stadium, academy, and facilities for Gaza’s children, and billions of dollars in commitments for the people of Gaza.
✅May 2, 2026: UN reports that humanitarian aid entering Gaza had increased by 72% compared with before the ceasefire.
✅July 31, 2026: Hamas signs an actionable, step-by-step framework for decommissioning its weapons, developed with the support of Nickolay Mladenov and mediators from Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and the United States. Implementation remains a critical next step.
✅2026: Five nations commit forces toward the International Stabilization Force, with several more working on logistics for deployment this fall.
✅September 23, 2026: Board of Peace hosts an open meeting on the sidelines of UNGA releasing the next steps in the Gaza recovery plan.
A year ago, so much of this seemed impossible.
First, many doubted we could reach an agreement. Then came the harder question of whether the parties would honor their commitments. Over the past year, we have seen what can be achieved when people with profound differences find ways to work together toward a common objective.
Steve Witkoff @SEPeaceMissions and I are grateful to @POTUS Trump for his leadership, @VP, @SecRubio, the Board of Peace team, led by @TB, @nmladenov, @lightstonea, @AliShaathNCAG, Gen. Jasper Jeffers, Liran Tanchman, Yakir Gabay, Josh Greunbaum, Josh Halpern and many others, and our partners in Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco and Israel. Special thanks to Sheikh Mohammed, Ali Al-Thwadi, Hakan Fidan, General Hasan, Bader Abdulhamdi, @mikeeisenberg, and @AmbDermer. I’m also grateful to the many talented people who have volunteered their time and energy because they believe that the horrors of October 7 and the suffering in Gaza must never happen again.
There is still hard work ahead. Disarmament must be implemented, security established, essential services restored, and communities rebuilt. None of this will be easy. But we have a thoughtful plan, committed partners, and a path forward that did not exist a year ago.
It’s worth recognizing how far we’ve come, even as we acknowledge how much remains to be done.
Hopefully, the year ahead will bring even more progress, and a few more miracles.

The problem with @carolinelucas’s analysis here is that it simply ignores the Palestine perspective.
Much of what she says about the origins of Zionism is true. None of it alters the fact that for Palestinians it meant subjugation, dispossession and expulsion. And inevitably so. How else do you create an ethnically defined political entity in a territory that at the start of the process was almost entirely inhabited by people of a different ethnicity?
Palestinians relate to Zionism as it has been inflicted upon them. They have every right to do so and, conventionally, supporters of a liberation struggle take their lead from the oppressed group rather than dictating to them. Except in the case of Palestinians apparently.
Lucas is absolutely entitled to disagree with this. But the other problem here is her assertion the motion crossed “a very significant red line.” In other words – others are not allowed to disagree with her.
This takes us directly to the territory of the EHRC definition of antisemitism, clause 7 of which forbids Palestinians from describing Zionism as a “racist endeavour.” This is an act of racist gaslighting that forbids Palestinians from articulating what the vast majority regard as the core reality of their experience over the last century – the innate, unavoidable racism of the Israeli state.
It serves to demonise and delegitimise the Palestinian struggle and – by tainting Palestinians with the stigma of antisemitism – facilitates the dehumanisation of the Palestinian people. newstatesman.com/politics/gr…

Former Labour Deputy Leader Lord Thomas Watson, now Senior Vice President at Palantir Technologies UK Limited, wrote to me defending the firm after I raised concerns about his role and its public contracts.
Instead of trading endless letters, I’ve challenged him to a public, openly chaired debate.
He can defend Palantir's ethos, while I set out the case for democratic control and public accountability.
The public deserves to hear both sides and judge for itself. Will you accept, @tom_watson ?
Palantir didn’t hire a former Labour deputy leader for his coding skills. It hired him for access.
Tom Watson’s move is more than a private career choice. It’s the revolving door in action and another blow to public trust.
The integrity gap won’t close until politicians pick a side.

So, the Green Party voted to brand Zionism as a form of racism - and all hell broke loose in the mainstream media that for years has been tolerating the Palestinian genocide.
Now, on the specific issue, of whether Zionism is a species of racism, here is what I can offer: A recommendation for a forthcoming book that I was privileged enough to get a chance to read before it was published.
The author is Benjamin Moser, the acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning author of 'Sontag: Her Life and Work'.
The book's title? 'Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History'.
Below you can find the blurb I wrote when I read it. I think it says everything I want to say on the question "Is Zionism a species of racism?"
Benjamin Moser grew up inside the Zionist story. This remarkable book is a record of his slow, painful unlearning of it – its deconstruction. Resembling some character in an Ibsen play, Moser gradually, unwittingly, discovers an unpunished crime at the heart of a storyline he had considered ‘pure’. The result is not a polemic but a resurrection of a fine tradition of Jews who resisted Zionism, whose stories were suppressed, their names erased, their portents dismissed as self-hatred. And yet, as Moser shows with devastating patience, they were right. They were right about the Nakba before it happened. They were right about the settlements before they spread. They were right about the genocide before we watched it unfold. More than any other recent book, Anti-Zionism restores our faith in what Iris Murdoch defined as the Sovereignty of Good.
