Triathletes stall at the next level for three reasons:
1. Swimming more instead of swimming faster.
2. In a hurry (peak results take 5-10+ years)
3. Chasing the 1% before the 99%
Right coach. Minimal effective dose. Say NO, more.
PSA. It's not a recovery ride if you ride 3hrs. It doesn't matter who you are. It doesn't matter if you ride at 40% of "FTP".
Congratulations to Wendy Mehaffey for her 2nd place at the Newport Rhode Island Marathon this past weekend, also smashing the Boston Qualifying time!
A great end to the season!
Who would have thought training 25-30hrs a week, crazy 6-7hr weekend rides and running too fast all the time would lead to blowups in Kona or being injured. Mentorship to these young athletes is TERRIBLE in the USA. Yet people still go to these "coaches".
The endurance community, especially here locally in Wisconsin, has lost a couple of athletes over the last few weeks, and it’s a reminder that the most important workout of your season isn’t on your training calendar.
