Did you know that objects exposed to ocean waves move in all six standard degrees of freedom? 🌊 Heave (up + down), surge (forward + back), sway, pitch, roll, and yaw are the technical terms describe this movement. This matters for wave energy converters because there are varying amounts of energy that can be captured in each degree of freedom. Our CETO wave energy converter is designed with three moorings and power take-off (PTO) units so that it can absorb energy in multiple degrees of freedom, capturing more energy from every wave. Plus, our smart controller allows CETO to maximise overall power absorbed across the entire system by operating each of the PTOs independently. The article explores the incredible power of wave energy, which generates power around the clock to back up wind and solar when the weather conditions shift.
