quick look at my custom ROM for steam frame. It uses @COSMIC_desktop as default desktop environment, and opted for ultrawide 2560x1440 instead of steamOS default 16:10 aspect ratio. The screen wraps around you, similar to Apple Vision Pro. I also built a screen recorder tool lol.

COSMIC now has an on-screen keyboard. It can be activated from the login screen or with an applet you can add to your panel. Settings are under Accessibility > On-screen keyboard.
It works great on touchscreen devices and game controllers. We're also working on improving the touchscreen experience throughout COSMIC.

In the proprietary world there are disagreements just like in the open source world. They're usually behind closed doors instead of in the open. The important difference is that open source gives people agency to act on disagreements. Fork or build your own thing, either way people retain their agency on both sides of the disagreement.

At system76 we had a different vision for the Linux desktop - in particular at the DE level - how to design it, how to develop it.
So we built it. That's it. No insults or drama.
The year of the Linux desktop is coming. And it will be thanks to the efforts of the entire Linux desktop community.
Electrophoretic coating (e-coat) is a cool process. The bath is charge 100-300 volts. The aluminum is a cathode causing the coating to deposit on the surface. As the coating becomes electrically insulating the deposit process natural slows.
I was looking into it as an alternative to anodization that's rather nasty for the environment but then became intrigued by sol-gel that seems to have the properties we're going for with much easier factory processes.
Always deep care and professionalism from the system76 support team.
"Purchased a Thelio Mega - a power surge damaged our power supply and customer service took the machine in immediately and turned out a repair free of charge all in the same visit! Shoutout to Thomas Zimmerman and team for the fast, easy repair! Overall the machine has been a real asset to our team and we will continue to work with System76 for future computing needs!"
