The album began in the wake of a bad car accident while on tour. He and his bandmates were lucky to be alive. They bonded through a process of healing together; he was deeply grateful for their love and support.

Sam said, “Fairweather Friend” is the first song he recorded with his band after surviving the accident. It’s the first song he put on a record that he produced himself with the band, and so it was really meaningful to him.
