This proposed plan is absolutely unacceptable.
Here’s what the plan actually does: 36 holes of public golf cut to 18. No more mini golf. No more park. More running / cycling road. No more playground. No more introductory course. Nobody has said a word about the Cherry blossoms.
Who is this actually for? Not the kid learning to golf. Not the family in a walk. Not the birders.
This was never about the public. It’s for the elitists who want a private showcase, and one man’s ego.

Trump’s destruction of parts of a DC public park in violation of a federal judge’s order cannot go unpunished.
This land, like the Kennedy Center & Yosemite belongs to the people, not him.
The perpetrators need to be held in contempt.
A federal judge excoriated the Trump administration for cutting down hundreds of trees at East Potomac Golf Links.
“More than just being upset and furious right now, I’m just beyond disappointed in the government,” she said. “There’s no excuse for this.” wapo.st/4ztaqwj

The fact that a piece of bread calms you down almost instantly. Oh Kim Richards we didn’t appreciate your wisdom in the way you deserved
Yesterday, my group of 5 tried to walk up to @zaytinya at 5:15p - we were told there’s no waiting list, no walk in tables for 3.5 hours. We walked past after a meal elsewhere to see 6+ open tables. Tough to see restaurants complain about business after refusing to serve us

You cannot overestimate the impact of being a good host, who hosts consistently. For several months in 2023, I hosted a dinner, pregame, or party ~weekly. Always at least 6 guests, usually more like 15, frequently more like 30 of them.
Hosting on that cadence was fun but taxing! I only had the stamina to do that for several months while I had a default co-host (my roommate) and we lived in a building with tons of other friends. I’m so glad that I did it, and I’m terribly glad I don’t feel the need to do that anymore.
Before and since then, I have 2-3 people over most weeks for a chill hangout. I throw a proper event (eg 15+ guests, with a partiful) only every 3 months or so. Usually NYE, my birthday, and another couple of random parties in a year. They’re always so much fun. I rarely send out an invite more than 10 days in advance, but they’re always well-attended.
One of the most delightful things in the world is when my old roomie from years ago gets excited about seeing our old neighbors who used to come around all the damn time, bc they’re both at the same big party and haven’t seen each other in ages. The other delightful thing is when I go to somebody else’s party & they’ve invited one of my friends who they met through me — and they’re homies now, and maybe even closer to
each other than they are with me. It fucking rocks.
Tons of my friends now host stuff on the same cadence that I do: a handful of significant events a year. You know what the sum total is of 15 people inviting you to 4 events a year? You have plans every week, at least. When you hear about New Yorkers humble-bragging about how swamped they are with partiful invites, it’s bc tbh we actually have 40+ friends who’ll throw us an invite every so often, bc if you attend these things even 50% of the time and you’re even a little friendly, you meet a new friend-shaped-acquaintance almost every single time. The lists just keep growing. And that doesn’t even account for one-on-one and small group hangs. When we say we’re oversocialized, we really mean it.
Very few of my friends had this kind of social abundance 5 years ago, or even 3 years ago. It all compounded over time bc we participated in creating the social lives we wanted. I implore all of you to start trying. You gotta start somewhere. I didn’t always have 30 actual friends to invite to things — I had maybe 30 people I kinda knew, and some of them were proper friends, and then I invited smaller groups over until more people were proper friends, and it just ballooned from there. It’s not magic or rocket science. Get over yourself and let people you like hang out in your slightly messy living room all the fucking time. You will not regret it!

The Kennedy Memorial is made of irreplaceable marble that was gifted by Italy.
Matisse tapestries found throughout were gifted from France.
The massive starburst chandelier in the Opera Hall, and lights along walkways, were a gift from Sweden.
The record-breaking stage curtains were a gift from Japan. They had to build special looms to weave them because of how big they are.
The grounds are beautiful with displays of art.
This is what Trump is destroying.

Reminder to those who apparently don't know: the Kennedy Center was financially robust, with many private donors, before this administration undermined it, chased out the National Symphony, Washington Opera and others. Trump has forced it into bankruptcy out of sheer vanity.
The Kennedy Center was a beloved Washington institution, enjoyed by millions of people. It has been destroyed for no real reason. Just vanity, carelessness, indifference.

People keep saying Trump term II is the most corrupt administration ever, so I built a model to find out if it was true.
I took the UN's definition of corruption, turned it into eight criteria and 100 points, and scored the leaders history remembers for looting their countries: Marcos, Suharto, Mobutu, Abacha, Obiang, Putin.
Then I put every president since Eisenhower on the same scale, both parties, with every exoneration counted right alongside the convictions.
Nixon scored 41 and no other American President scored over a 25.
Trump's second term scored a 91, which ties him with Suharto and Mobutu and puts him above Marcos and Abacha.
So he is not only the most corrupt president in American history. At this pace he finishes his term level with the most corrupt rulers of the last hundred years.

My Lord.
@JoeBiden, 83 years old, battling Stage 4 cancer that has spread to his bones, stood for HOURS alongside @DrBiden as the names of 9/11 victims were read.
Donald Trump fell asleep at the 9/11 event at the Pentagon.
One showed respect despite his pain. The other couldn't even stay awake.
Trump is an embarrassment to the nation and the office he holds.
Really says it all.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The President of the United States has no constitutional or statutory authority to issue a dividend check on behalf of the US Government. Only the Congress can authorize and appropriate these funds.
