it's a shame frederick douglass isnt portrayed on any us currency because even just from a purely aesthetical standpoint he had such a sick ass side profile
If you're an artist having trouble with commissions, check out this 40+ pages Google Doc guide "How to be a freelance artist"
docs.google.com/document/d/1…
For anyone aspiring to make a living from art commissions, you need to know it's never consistent. Some months I make $4000, some others I make $100.
Clients come and go, sometimes you have opportunities, and sometimes you don't. You also have to complete ongoing commissions before taking new ones, so it really depends on how fast you work and how good you are at marketing yourself.
Even if you've cleared all your commissions, nothing guarantees you'll find new clients to get money next month.
Sadly we also have to rely on socials for visibility, so that too makes it i consistent and hard to predict. If the right person sees your post at the right time, hooray, but it doesn't always work that way especially when you just get started.
Being a freelance artist can be really harsh, but on the other hand, it has great advantages that you'd never find in ANY other job. I love my job so much, and I wouldn't trade it for a corpo job for anything in the world.

I kinda find that oddly endearing about McKimson's direction during the 1950s. It's not as sharp or as well-defined as Jones and Freleng, but there's a weird charm about him trying to understand this new, popular style of design

I sometimes load artists' work I like into my drawing software and start thinking how they approached it. Turn on greyscale to check value structure. Look closer at the composition, perspective etc. Where is the horizon line? And ask for yourself, what could improve the artwork?

I've always wanted to study other artists' work but I never knew how ( •̯́ ^ •̯̀). Do you have any advice?

we need to begin decolonizing academia. normalize reading clubs, learning outside the classroom, intellectual organizations, art meet-ups. we cannot let this administration take the arts and humanities from us.

Tip for yall unsure how to pose characters for designs or doodles— reference stuff from idol and dance games! My favorites are Idolmaster, Tokyo seventh sisters and Just dance. Just dance is also useful for creative bold outfits that can still be moved in.

The homeless woman murdered in Central Park was a beloved artist and birdwatcher who made beautiful pieces dedicated to birds. She went by Lee Rogers, but also was known as Elise Bainbridge Hill. Her art was awesome. I hope her life story is shared and not just the grisly details
