On September 21, 2007, Emily Elizabeth Haddock was taking the day off from school to recover from strep throat. Meanwhile, a group of teenagers were knocking on doors in the neighborhood, pretending to need directions. If no one came to the door of a home, the young men would enter and burglarize it. When they arrived at Emily's house, she was in a back room, working on a puzzle. Michael Currie and his associates broke in and discovered the 12-year-old girl home alone, so they shot her in the mouth and the back of the head. Emily's grandfather found her lifeless body when he came to check in on her.
