On the roof of the hospital, when Yato is fighting his father, there is a moment when Yato cuts his own hand rather than allow Yukine to touch Hiki and break his GGS. He really tried to protect him even at the cost of his own blood.

Noragami is a story about the consequences of abuse. It seeks to dispel the image of the “perfect victim.” Yukine has plenty of reasons not to be perfect . And yet there will still be people who hate him because he doesn’t live up to their expectations.
