This paper has just been published by Verdad Advisors, and well worth a read...
The Deep-Value Opportunity in South Korea
🇰🇷 South Korea: one of the world's most overlooked deep-value opportunities?
Highlights why Korea is much more than the Samsung/SK Hynix AI trade.
📉 52% of Korean stocks trade below book value, vs 31% in Japan, 23% in Europe and 12% in the US.
🏦 The problem?
Family-controlled conglomerates (chaebols), weak shareholder protections and incentives to keep valuations depressed.
🔧 But reforms are changing the game.
Korea's Value-Up programme is pushing for better governance, higher dividends and buybacks, while tax reforms could finally align controlling families with minority shareholders.
📊 Verdad's simulated value + stability strategy returned 14.6% annually over 15 years, vs 10.8% for MSCI Korea.
💰 Its current portfolio trades at just 0.34x book, with a 5.2% dividend yield and 4.6x EV/EBITDA (excluding financials).
Stay away from speculative, unprofitable value traps and focusing on cheap, stable businesses.
Focus on getting returns from dividends and fundamental growth, while potentially benefiting from a governance-driven re-rating.

Nice pitch on a Taiwanese small cap Chien Kuo Construction $5515.TW 🇹🇼 by @stonescap
- Engaged in construction, concrete and engineering services.
- Managing a large portfolio of investments that sum, after haircuts, to roughly 80% of its market cap.
- The construction business is hence undervalued at
4x P/E.
- 33% insider ownership.
- 6.5% dividend yield.
- Shrewd management.

Nice write-up on Constellation Software $CSU.TO by @CrossroadsOnX
Well we say 'write-up' but it's more like an essay/small book 🙂
Well worth a read over a tea or coffee.
'AI may be eating software, but CSU has been feasting on software companies for thirty years, and the menu just got cheaper.'
