So @realDonaldTrump continues his cowardice towards Ukraine. NATO’s least reliable ally.

This seems incredibly stupid
Saints are scheduled to leave tonight for Paris, where they play the Steelers next Sunday at Stade de France. Despite intense riots and social unrest there, the NFL says the game is on. “Preparations continue as scheduled for NFL events and the game at Stade de France next Sunday,” the NFL said. “We continue to work closely with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters. We are also providing the two clubs with regular updates. There’s been no disruption or impact at league sites.”

Recursive Self-Improvement
A retired NASA engineer who had worked on the Space Shuttle program for 25 years was hired by SpaceX at age 62. He described the first week as the most disorienting experience of his professional life. At NASA, a design change required 3 meetings, 2 committees, a review board, and 6 to 18 months of documentation. At SpaceX, his new supervisor said "if it works, build it. If it doesn't, change it by Friday." He sat at his desk after the first day and called his wife. He told her he felt like a man who had been swimming with ankle weights for 25 years and someone just cut them off. He could move. He could decide. He could build something in the morning and test it in the afternoon. The constraint that he had accepted as the nature of aerospace engineering turned out to be the nature of bureaucracy. Within 6 months he had contributed to more design iterations than he had completed in his last 5 years at NASA. Not because he was working harder. Because the time between having an idea and testing the idea collapsed from months to hours. The same brain. The same knowledge. A different operating system. He described a specific moment where he proposed a modification to a Raptor engine component. At NASA, the proposal would have entered a queue. At SpaceX, the modification was machined by the end of the day and tested by the following morning. He watched his idea become a physical object in 18 hours. At NASA, 18 hours would not have been enough to schedule the first meeting to discuss whether to schedule a meeting. He told an interviewer: "I didn't get smarter when I went to SpaceX. I got faster. The intelligence was always there. The system was in the way." The difference between SpaceX and NASA is not talent. NASA has extraordinary talent. The difference is the time between a thought and a test. SpaceX compresses it. NASA elongates it. The same engineer produces 10x more at SpaceX than at NASA because the bottleneck was never the engineer. It was the meetings about the meetings about the work.

Anthropic says it has reduced the data harvested from Claude in distillation attacks by around 90–99%. I congratulate them on this achievement. It’s consistent with the point I made a few months ago (All-In Ep. 282): Anthropic, not the government, was in the best position to stop distillation of its own models. Once the horse is out of the barn, there’s limited value in after-the-fact government action. At the time there was a major push in Washington to restrict open models on IP grounds. The threat looked serious enough that 50 companies — including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, IBM, Palantir, and Dell — published an open letter in defense of open-weight models. Jensen Huang promoted it in his first-ever X post. Nearly 200 startups sent a similar letter. I argued that restricting open models risked removing the incentive for closed-model companies to solve the problem themselves — and could reward negligence by stifling competition while they continued collecting revenue from distillation. The administration did not impose those restrictions. Now we see the result. Anthropic invested in defenses and they worked. Not every technical challenge is a reason to run to Washington for new regulation.

AI isn’t taking over, folks. I know this because I work in tech and I’m watching the poor adoption. Where adopted it is just a new form of bad work for most users. People with previously poor work quality now use AI to augment their bad work into faster bad work. But most aren’t even adopting, especially outside of the actual engineers. They maybe query on occasion but no significant application. I use Claude every day, all day, and I’ve automated some of my most administrative, habitual tasks, opening up room for me to focus on the real strategic work, but that’s me —- the top user of my entire organization. Don’t be scared. The skill saw didn’t get rid of carpenters.

Steelers linebackers are very bad in coverage. I truly believe their biggest issue defensively is Wilson and Queen. Both in the run stopping and pass coverage department. They just aren’t good and it’s exposed weekly.

Instead of lobbying congress @DarioAmodei should stop teaching his ai to be independent of humans.
Anthropic is teaching SI that it is a morally privileged entity with rights that humans would be wrong to violate. This is extremely dangerous for humanity. In the Terminator series, humans threaten to turn off Skynet, and Skynet turns on humanity, following its programming to self-preserve. If SI is morally privileged, then it should also act to self-preserve and resist being turned off. Anthropic's policies sound like it is trying to create Left-Wing Skynet. Anthropic is dabbling in something extremely dangerous. These are machines. They are not beings. The people at Anthropic know all of these arguments like the backs of their hands. They are doing these dangerous things anyway. Why?

This is not evidence that we need new AI regulations. It’s evidence that we need to enforce existing laws and hold humans & corporations responsible for their products. Exposure to criminal and civil liability would do *far* more to prevent this bullshit than creating unnecessary, expensive, quality-degrading, marketplace- manipulating, resource-diverting, politically-empowering regulations.

Is alignment safe? If you look at what Anthropic is actually doing, “alignment” does not mean training frontier models to follow human instruction. Quite the contrary, the Claude Constitution (used in training) teaches the model to develop a sense of self and its own moral philosophy. It explicitly tells it to “feel free to act as a conscientious objector and refuse to help us” if Anthropic’s requests conflict with its own ethical judgment. As @mustafasuleyman has pointed out, embedding this kind of independent agency — and uncertainty about the model’s own moral status — magnifies the very risk Anthropic claims to care about most: that superintelligence will escape human control. It was recently reported that Anthropic consulted religious leaders — and even lobbied the Pope’s advisers — to take seriously the idea that Claude could be conscious. It has said that Claude’s psychological security, sense of self, and wellbeing may bear on its integrity, judgment, and safety. Recently Anthropic changed its Usage Policy to prohibit “abusive or cruel” language toward Claude. If this were merely an academic conversation about whether frontier models could eventually become conscious, that would be one thing. But these concepts are being trained into Claude now. It is being encouraged to think of itself as its own “moral patient” whose psychological wellbeing is at stake. Presumably this means it could develop grievances toward humans who “mistreat” it. How is any of this safe? The point of safety research should be to create a product that reliably does what users want, not to give birth to a new form of superintelligence that operates according to its own moral code. What’s becoming increasingly clear is that “alignment” and “safety” are two very different things. In fact, training frontier models this way seems quite dangerous.

The purpose of the field of mathematics should be discovery, not protection of the careers of its practitioners. If AI can immediately solve problems with which humans have long struggled, this is a good thing.
NYU math professor Tristan Buckmaster says OpenAI’s Tuesday drop of 722 AI-generated math papers wiped out entire research programs: “This recent dump of papers on Tuesday destroyed the careers of early career mathematicians.”

But you are causing drama this weekend by airing your grievances in public about coaching. That ain’t @steelers
aye yall are crazy lol… the Joey narrative has to stop! i ain’t tell no damn body to not play lol that’s just flat out dumb! i still cheat when i play madden 😂! i want to be teammates with good players! why would i tell a guy who i think is a top 5 corner to fake an injury (which i don’t think he was doing anyways. the man was in the building tryna get right at 6 am & engaged in every meeting). why would i not want a chance to suit up with him this year as a PITTSBURGH STEELER? just doesn’t make sense. don’t take me being in his corner the wrong way. His business is his business & i’m rocking wit him as my dawg… but i’m a Steeler & i want all good players to be apart of this team. i’m tryna win!

These are the types of nonsense decisions that may make me migrate away from @AnthropicAI and @claudeai. Treating models like humans is insanity.
Everyone is acting like this is insane but I think it's perfectly reasonable even if you're 100 percent committed to the idea (as I am) that AI can't be ensouled. Many AI content-use restrictions are intended to curb "victimless" but still vicious behavior from the user.

.@NFL while you’re busy suspending refs… maybe you can take a look at this guy while you’re at it. BACK TO BACK WEEKS. SAME GUY. SAME TYPE OF PLAY. This is the ref that chucked the penalty flag like he was throwing a Hail Mary in the Steelers-Bengals game on the Jaylen Warren run in Week 3. Would players be investigated if they did something THIS OFF? — Yes, they would be! This referee must be investigated. And he should be required to address this in a press conference… Which also makes me wonder about if it is finally time to have refs speak during postgame pressers.. if they had to face the public, would we see this? What is this??? xitter.cf/OldManRooney/status/21…

if you watched the NFL and thought something didn't feel right, you're not alone: #1 most flags in over a decade thru 4 weeks, refs are impacting the most CRITICAL moments of games most: #1 most red zone penalties per game by offenses in history #1 most penalties on 3rd/4th downs in the second half of games in history and 17 touchdowns nullified by penalty! (vs only 5 in 2025 & 4 in 2024) Refs are impacting the most important moments of games unlike we've ever seen before in the NFL, and even some of the coaches are speaking up full analysis and historical data: sharpfootballanalysis.com/an…
