It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Their cities are burning and their landmarks are in ashes. In the middle of all that, French patriots unfurled a massive "REMIGRATION" banner for the whole country to see.
That's the message ordinary French people have been afraid to say out loud for years.
Their leaders opened the borders, ignored every warning, and called anyone who objected a bigot. Now the bill has come due.
This next election may be France's last real chance to change course. If voters don't demand secure borders and enforced deportations now, there may not be a country left to save.

The official story is that it's about school standards and the cost of living. Vance didn't buy it.

In Thursday’s Alaska Senate debate, Democrat Mary Peltola was reading her answers straight off cue cards while Sen. Dan Sullivan watched.
He asked the moderators point-blank: “We weren’t supposed to get these questions beforehand, were we?” They said no. She said she was just “prepared.”
Sullivan later put it plainly: “You can’t cue-card your way to the Senate.”
This isn’t new. In 2016, Donna Brazile (then DNC and CNN contributor) fed Hillary Clinton specific questions ahead of CNN Democratic primary debates and town halls, the Flint water crisis question and a death-penalty question, proven by WikiLeaks Podesta emails. Brazile later resigned from CNN over it.
Then there were the 2024 when Kamala Harris was receiving real-time answers through “audio earrings” during her debate with Trump (similar earpiece/wire accusations hit Biden in 2020). Those particular tech devices helped them to almost sound a little intelligent.
The pattern of scripted, prepped, or suspiciously polished Democratic debate performances keeps showing up.
Alaska voters deserve candidates who can speak without a stack of notes. You can’t cue-card your way into the U.S. Senate.

Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing the U.S. government to call Lake Ontario “Lake America.” The move came after trade talks with Canada collapsed and Washington slapped 50 percent tariffs on billions in Canadian goods. Trump said Canada has been ripping the United States off on trade and that he does not expect much business with Ontario going forward. He compared it to renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

The Interior Department and the Board on Geographic Names have 30 days to update the federal system. The U.S. Geological Survey already started changing electronic records. He cannot force Canada, New York, private mapmakers, or the rest of the world to use the new name.
Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney, said the lake will remain Lake Ontario “today and forever.” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said New York will not call it Lake America. The name itself is older than both countries. It comes from an Indigenous word, not from the Canadian province that later took it.
The name change is a jab, not a peace treaty. The larger fight is over trade, tariffs, and whether the United States keeps absorbing a bad deal.
