"Poohsticks" - oil on canvas (8"x10")
I forgot to post the finished version! I delivered this to my mom when I was in NYC a few weeks ago. I probably spent at least 15 hours on this. it brought back a lot of memories, mostly good ones, but it's always going to be complicated.

the thing is if you’re a good person you can do “crazy” things like this
true love is true love, and it’s beautiful to see
Replying to @Bonecondor
you left out my favourite part of the story where he moved in with you while you were out of town and before you'd even met in person 🥰
Convinced mine to book a flight after 2 weeks of texting, no calls/video. But when a cop showed up with a restraining order and summons to court in another state (unrelated lol), I called him. He was even better over the phone—I had never felt so at ease! Married a year later.
We have entered a golden age for IT and many have not noticed.
I notice that I am losing my terror of system administration.
I have reluctantly been a Unix system administrator for so many decades that when I started doing it the job was not clearly distinguished from being a programmer. And it was on minicomputers. You kids probably don't remember minicomputers.
I've always hated system administration.
The problem is, it's usually not possible to solve system administration problems with principled reasoning. It's all magic details that you have to memorize, all the way down - and the magic details change over time.
Interfaces and tools are documented, but troubleshooting procedures never are.
In the past, I have wrestled with this stuff only when I absolutely had to, and there was much profanity and yelling involved.
But. LLMs are *extremely* good at remembering the magic details and coming up with diagnostics that discriminate among different failure modes.
So I notice that I'm not cursing and yelling anymore, just conversing with a robot who remembers everything for me.
This is a good thing.

marry a man whose love is so spacious you start unfolding just to fill it and never stop
The question I never knew the answer to: are we sufficiently compatible, or am I just very good at adapting?
btw - this was less than a year in. I was holding onto hope that advice like @chrislakin’s OP was true!
(This is not a QT dunk, just an alternative perspective.)
Literally two days ago I said to my husband: I've spent my whole life trying to be "one of the guys," and feeling like a failure because I "can't keep up." Maybe it's time to stop trying.
