Rediscovered a list that I made of my top 10 video games of the decade, 2010-2019. The winners were chosen from a short list of games that I'd played, each of which won a bespoke superlative award. If I post all of it here, then I won't lose it again, and you get to clown me.

Hey it's me Destin, from Smarter Every Day. Now that it's time to elect America's next leader, I would like to share something very interesting and important with you. I've been paying attention to this for a while, and I think if you look for it, you see it too. 🧵 1/n

Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" is a kinetic thing of dark, imposing beauty that quakes with the disquieting tremors of a forever rupture in the course of human history, AP Film Writer Jake Coyle writes his review. apnews.com/article/oppenheim…

I switched (cold turkey) from the QWERTY keyboard layout to COLEMAK in November 2021, and although it only took me a couple of weeks to reach my QWERTY proficiency, I now regret making the change. QWERTY is ubiquitous and now I'm worthless in front of anybody else's computer.

And my experience is that people expect professional programmers to be better than worthless in front of a computer.

I wonder how long @AP had to spend verifying that Pope Francis was actually wearing this coat.
Pope Francis went to a Rome hospital for some scheduled tests, the Vatican said. The Vatican provided no details other than to say the pontiff’s visit to the Gemelli hospital was “previously scheduled.” apnews.com/article/pope-fran…

Listen, I like video games. I think they're great! But kids should not be playing them for 3+ hours every day. Surely some of these benefits can come from significantly less use.
Instead of telling kids not to play video games, adults should play too. Compared to kids who don’t play, those who play 3 hrs/day have better working memory & impulse control. Experiments show cognitive benefits for adults too. Video games are a form of exercise for the brain.
