Very proud to be a small part of amaB and its fantastic 2024. Onwards to 2025!
At the beginning of this year, I had some sleepless nights as we worked to put in place the building blocks for some big projects, which meant we didn’t publish as much as we’d have liked to. By the end of December, we had shot the lights out in a number of ways.

Humbled by all the messages we’ve received since we launched our documentary on the NPA on Sunday. m.youtube.com/watch?v=_2HakW… This was out of our comfort zone - at @amaBhungane we normally do our digging behind the scenes, not in front of the cameras. Here’s why we did it🧵

Critics argue that the failures in addressing state capture signal a deeper systemic crisis, a concern shared by amaBhungane. Batohi’s former deputy, Hermione Cronje, could no longer stay silent. See more here: youtu.be/_2HakW03sLQ?si=3ev1…

The #Laundry series launching TOMORROW is really good example of why @amaBhungane exists: to give investigative journalists time and space to expose entire networks of organised crime. What Dewald van Rensburg has unearthed will blow your mind. amabhungane.org/the-laundry-…

With both the Mayor of Cape Town and the Premier of the Western Cape going all out to make it sound as if the High Court fully agrees with the City's evictions and their offers of assistance, I feel I need to be the voice of reason and highlight how the City is manipulating what

I’m proud of us. The next five years are going to require a lot of work from ALL of us. Democracy is an every day event, I hope we show up for this phenomenal, unhinged country in all the ways that matter. ♥️🇿🇦

Treasury has released a statement “correcting misleading” reports about the IEC’s budget cuts that are said to have contributed to yesterday’s challenges. NT says it reversed the R250m reduction, allowed IEC to retain R1.5bn surplus and provided an extra R350m for security.

How people are kicking the IEC when it had to pull this off after having some R500 million cut from its budget, while trying to implement what was a practically a whole new voting system, and analysts absolutely got the predictions on turnout wrong, is upsetting me.

We often are told that jobs give people dignity...nothing gives people more dignity than shelter and food. This is a hill I am literally willing to die on: people should have shelter and food regardless of whether we have jobs.

This list of potential cabinet members is a taste of what the Mooshot pact would look like in government. I want us all the visualize it before deciding what to do with our votes.
🔴ADRIAAN BASSON'S 2024 DREAM CABINET🔴 Adriaan Basson has listed a wishlist of names he says must be in 2024 cabinet (if by wildest dream the ANC were to be removed in 2024) He says Prof Madonsela must be the president and John Steenhuisen her deputy. Songezo Zibi, a minister without portfolio. It's something we see on channel Africa Magic. Utopia vibes. He wants a cabinet which will be a retirement old age home. It's not just as bloated as Ramaphosa's one, but his an equal number, if not more, of Grand moms & Grand Dads. These are his proposed ministers: ● Patricia de Lille- 73 years ● Kenneth Moshoe - 70 years ● Pieter Groenawald - 69 years ● Murphy Morobe- 68 years ● Glynnis Breytenbach - 64 yrs ● Herman Mashaba - 65 years ● Corne Mulder - 63 years ● Ivan Meyer - 62 years ● Alan Winde - 59 years ● Velenkosini Hlabisa - 59 years ● Roger Jardine- 59 years

With @alhaq_org, we continue to monitor cases of reported attacks by Israel on medical facilities in Gaza. This task is made harder by Israeli disinformation; in the thread below, we demonstrate that Israeli media statements following the al-Ahli hospital blast were misleading.

Great development of SLAPP jurisprudence in SA
Replying to @Dariomilo
Court: Says consistent with s 16 (free expression) that SLAPP suits against journalists warrant protection by courts. The prosecution of @karynmaughan "has all the elements of a SLAPP suit"; has effect of "intimidating, harassing and silencing her as its ulterior motive" 6/6

#SouthAfrica: Read what has been unleashed to try to censor @amaBhungane. Its journalists have exposed massive private & public sector corruption over the years. Anyone that goes to this length must have a lot to hide. It is an assault on press freedom and your right to know.
At 6.36 pm last night, amaBhungane received a court interdict from Ulrich Roux, lawyer for controversial businessman Zunaid Moti and the Moti Group, which muzzles amaBhungane’s reporting and was applied for and granted in secret (ex-parte and in-camera). amabhungane.org/stories/moti…
