“Oh, that's a good one. Whoa!” Trump said, looking down at his own signature after signing a vague EO that creates a “White House Women’s Health Task Force” and a “Women’s Health Division” at the National Institutes of Health, both of which come without specific funding commitments.
“Okay. Why don't you sign right here?” Trump said to Melania, who was sitting right next to him.
“Perfect, yeah,” she said, trying to play along.
“I don't know if her signature means anything,” Trump mocked as she accepted the pen.
“But why don’t you do it, because I think it does,” he said, tapping the paper like an adult telling a child to sign their crayon drawing because it’s “so valuable.”
“But yours is the most important,” Melania said, awkwardly laughing.
“Mmm… That looks very similar. Wow. Doesn’t it? That looks very similar,” observed Trump, chuckling.
The entire thing was incredibly patronizing, but as usual Melania just accepted the humiliation because she’s addicted to her proximity to power.
Of course, her signature is as meaningless as the document itself. She has no Executive Branch power, and Trump was rubbing that fact in because he delights in making women feel powerless and infantilized.
The irony here is that this meaningless Executive Order was a desperate attempt to shore up Trump’s support among women ahead of the midterm elections, and even so he couldn’t resist the urge to remind us that he sees women as inferior creatures.

“Vale la pena empezar por recordar esta historia porque desarma, mejor que cualquier estadística, la frase que durante veinticinco años se ha repetido en las tertulias de Miami, en las columnas de Madrid, en los discursos de la oposición y algunos seguidores de la actual dirección venezolana, y que los mismos de siempre han intentado reflotar por estos días: que Venezuela le regalaba el petróleo a Cuba. Lo que se puso en marcha aquella noche en La Habana no fue el gesto agradecido de un país mantenido, fue la respuesta agradecida de un pueblo que, con el bloqueo encima y la economía apretada hasta el último tornillo, decidió que tenía algo valioso que ofrecer y que lo iba a ofrecer a lo grande.
El acuerdo que hizo posible todo aquello tiene fecha, firma y texto público, de modo que no hace falta creerle a nadie. El Convenio Integral de Cooperación entre Cuba y Venezuela se firmó en Caracas el 30 de octubre del año 2000, rubricado por Fidel Castro y Hugo Chávez, y en él Venezuela se comprometía a proveer a Cuba, a solicitud de esta, de bienes, asistencia técnica, crudo y derivados hasta un total de 53.000 barriles diarios.
Pero el convenio no habla solo de petróleo, y basta recorrer su anexo, que es en realidad un inventario minucioso de lo que Cuba ponía sobre la mesa, para entender que aquello fue un intercambio en toda regla. Allí aparecen la asesoría para recuperar la industria azucarera venezolana y los estudios para levantar tres centrales en Barinas, Guárico y Apure; los proyectos de organopónicos, riego, plantas medicinales y manejo forestal; más de 120 medicamentos genéricos, las vacunas cubanas contra la hepatitis B y la meningitis B, y equipos médicos fabricados en la isla, desde electrocardiógrafos hasta los sistemas SUMA para diagnosticar VIH, hepatitis y dengue. Aparecen también los asesores para formar maestros y consolidar las escuelas bolivarianas, los métodos de alfabetización, hasta 3.000 entrenadores deportivos, la formación de médicos, enfermeras y técnicos para las zonas más aisladas del país, y la disposición de los hospitales cubanos para realizar trasplantes de médula, corazón, hígado, riñón y córnea, además de tratamientos de restauración neurológica y de adicciones.”
