I don’t think this can be a good movie but I hope I’m wrong!
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is developing a movie adaptation of "Hatchet," Gary Paulsen’s 1987 young adult survival novel. • The film will be written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, best known for films such as “Blue Valentine” and “The Place Beyond the Pines.” • Per the synopsis: “Hatchet” follows “13-year-old Brian Robeson, who is stranded alone in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash with nothing but the hatchet his mother gave him.” • Paulsen later expanded the story into a five-book series that included “The River” (1991), “Brian’s Winter” (1996), “Brian’s Return” (1999) and “Brian’s Hunt” (2003). wp.me/pc8uak-1lHWxk

If you think someone has a vulnerable computer, and you successfully guess a password/username combo it’s at least a misdemeanor and usually a felony. In this context I’d expect them to charge the felony (under normal circumstances anyway)
Right wingers consume so much television about criminals getting off on a "technicality" that they fundamentally believe you can get away with just about any crime as long as you describe it as innocuously as possible. Kids often suffer this same delusion

Cyber Security Awareness Month starts soon, annual reminder to please not abbreviate it as "CSAM". "CySam" or ""CybSAM" both work great.

I think what Musk did with DOGE was genuinely awful and more broadly I think Musk models terrible epistemic practices on this website practically every day. But starlink internet is in fact a good product.
Despite being critical of @elonmusk, there is a @Starlink satellite dish on this James Talarico van.

If you just repealed zoning in even like, five neighborhoods everything would be completely fine.

It was all fun and games when a bunch of artists rented warehouse and industrial space no one else was using to live in, but now we have fetishized the idea of “artist housing” and turned it into a special type of zoning.
This is the most insane zoning things I've ever heard of I can't believe this is real - there's certain units in New York that to be allowed to live in you have to be a certified as an "artist" by a secretive government board

The sleight-of-hand right now is the conflation of "tech companies owe Americans (all of us)" with "tech companies should hire Americans (the tweeter, who wants more money)". Speaking as an American consumer, I want them to pay their debt to me with cheap, high-quality services.

If you're at a "lounge" at O'Hare instead of at the Chili's with a Triple Dipper and a Modelo Especial while you check your emails on your laptop you don't know ball.
not to be someone who complains about an airport lounge but my god this is dire

You need to get the data somehow. If you’re making a crazy number of requests like this that shows up on the network. If you let the data be local you’ve already lost it
Nice, I made something like this ~6 years ago for... personal use. This is literally the worst nightmare for corporate IT/security. They are watching the wires, NOT the screen! But now we all have 4K screens at 60+ FPS... and also 4K cameras in our phones that do 120 FPS...

Absolutely indefensible policy calls
AI shouldn't put California truckers out of work to pad Big Tech's profits. As governor, I'll reverse the DMV's autonomous trucking rules and keep human drivers on the road.politico.com/news/2026/03/03…

My thread on how very old ornate religious buildings were a product of stationary banditry drew a response from Ross Douthat defending specifically Catholic buildings. You can read my response here, but I want to make a broader point about where Christianity is in 2026.
Replying to @Douthat60
That's ridiculous. 1. Do you view royal palaces the same way? Because they are the exact same thing-- gaudy luxurious buildings built with the consumer surplus appropriated by stationary banditry and not spent on the poor.

There is nothing about this that is amazing. It was predicted endlessly, and those predictions were dismissed by people citing the fact that big companies opposed these measures. They opposed them because while their relative position is stronger, the pie is now smaller.
truly one of the most amazing developments in trans-Atlantic tech policy over the past 20 years is the way that Europe set out to regulate US tech giants into the ground, but only made them more dominant as a result. This Economist headline really says it.

Update from 2026: She nuked San Francisco’s housing pipeline by bagel-ing on a tax on new housing production. media.api.sf.gov/documents/C… Next, she’ll nuke your ability to get home insurance if she gets into the Top 2 for California insurance commissioner with a Republican in June.
When writing from the sidelines, it can be challenging to understand STRATEGY + WINNING. Voters always support building high levels of affordable housing. Market rate developers don’t because it cuts into their profits.

U.S. negotiators are sitting down with a regime in Iran in its weakest position in 47 years. After the severe degradation of its nuclear and war-making capabilities, it had one last card left: Hormuz. Now Gulf states and the global energy industry will accelerate efforts to reduce dependence on the strait. And over time that blackmail lever will disappear. What remains is a regime facing economic devastation and a country where 92% of Iranians despise it. The clock is ticking on its inevitable demise.
