This work is different than my usual. It doesn’t have crypto art references, moldy money, or stereoscopics. It is instead an introspective homage to the mural work and personal collection of Diego Rivera. I was really moved by experiencing his murals and Mexican culture artifact collection while in Mexico City on residency w Museo Anahuacalli and @8NAP_ART. Having done landscape works in the past, I wanted to create my own style of a mural and do so using the very pieces that formed the museum Diego built (and died during construction). My answer… “touch the art” Bring the mural to life. Invite the viewer to be the muralist. Invite them to feel something. At the opening, I saw this happening and it moved me deeply to see people spend time, sometimes 30 minutes, making the mural their own and experiencing art with my touchscreen kinetic 3D collage machine. Now one of the En Marcha works is in the Museo Anahuacalli permanent collection. My first institution acquisition. Deeply honored by that. En Marcha roughly translates to ‘in motion’ which has multiple play on word meanings and encapsulates not only the obvious 3D motion of the work, but also how I was affected during its creation. Developing new paths. This work will lead me in my next piece. It is foundational. This isn’t my usual, but it is my authentic response to an experience, in a far away land, that I might never see again. I was shocked late last night when i saw @batsoupyum collected the #1 piece. He chose to collect a work that is challenging. That means the world to me.
