Everyone is just a cold email away. A lot more people will reply than you expect, no matter how impressive or intimidating they seem, as long as you speak like a real human and have something interesting or useful to say.

“we all have the same 24 hours” means nothing when everyone doesn’t have the same privilege, resources, and funds.

Someone told me that my comments here make me unemployable. Well, sorry to tell you frankly... if I am deemed unemployable by someone... thats because they know accountability to bullshit hiring is imminent with me. They are afraid of change. Here comes big bad scary Sidney 💪 – at Phoenix, AZ

If you’re looking for someone with “MySQL” or “Java” on their resume, you’re looking for a full stack dev not a frontend dev. Please stop hiring “frontend devs” wth a full stack skill set. Pay your employees what they deserve/don’t overwork them by asking them to do everything.

1,000,000% this. If a senior engineer can’t explain it to you in a way you understand - even if you are a lot less experienced - that’s THEIR deficiency. Not yours. When this happens, it means THEY actually don’t understand it well enough.
Replying to @noahsussman
The best engineers are not only good at listening but they are good at explaining as well. If you have been overwhelmed and intimidated by a senior engineer please consider the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's likely that person knows less than they think they do. A lot less.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made over the last few months is this: When “saving” a piece of information/note/resource, *always give it a job*. It’s the same idea as “giving every dollar a job”. Instead of digital hoarding, I’m carefully curating my knowledge base.

From my perspective, I've never seen innovation happen without mistakes along the way. So if you want to create environments- for yourself, for your teams, where people can develop original concepts, you have to create space for some failures, too.

100% agreed. At @clearleft we love our small group of trusted freelancers and so we pay them when they are supposed to be paid, if not before. If only our clients treated us the same (you know it - the bigger they are, the later they pay - yet no enforceable law against it?)
One of the best things you can do as a freelancer or small studio is to👏 pay👏your👏freelancers and subcontractors before the invoices come due

My favorite growth hack you can implement right now and get results? It's consistency. Fine print: Sometimes it takes 3-4 years but believe me it's a tested and working formula!

Very good chance you’re gonna come across someone this weekend whose life you could change with your love/support/generosity/kindness. What if you took that chance? It might change your life, too. Or just don’t be an asshole. Both great options!

Beware of getting content on Fiverr folks! I just emailed a business a list of 200+ URLs. Entire copy + featured images were taken from our blog. Owner paid freelancers on Fiverr. Their entire blog is going to be wiped out. Saving a few $$$ isn't always the way to go. Invest.

I still hear talk about boot camp grads being beginners and people being afraid to hire. The grads I know used to be lawyers, mech engineers, doctors, teachers...etc. How long do you think it will take for people with that level of determination to lap your college dropout ass?
The fact that people STILL think you have to have a degree to be an engineer is absolutely ridiculous. People who go to boot camps or self-teach are some of the most dedicated and determined people. They’re the type of people I want to be on teams with.
