𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗥 👀 Two developers. Same experience. One gets paid 2–3× more. Here are the 10 skills companies test in senior interviews ↓ SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER SKILL TREE │ ├── 01. Programming Fundamentals │ ├── Strong in at least one language │ ├── Data Structures & Algorithms │ ├── OOP, SOLID & Design Patterns │ └── Clean, maintainable code │ ├── 02. System Design │ ├── High-Level Design (HLD) │ ├── Low-Level Design (LLD) │ ├── Scalability & Load Balancing │ ├── Caching & Message Queues │ └── Architecture Trade-offs │ ├── 03. Database Engineering │ ├── SQL & NoSQL │ ├── Indexing & Query Optimization │ ├── Transactions & ACID │ ├── Replication & Sharding │ └── Data Consistency │ ├── 04. Distributed Systems │ ├── Microservices Architecture │ ├── Concurrency & Race Conditions │ ├── Idempotency & Retries │ ├── Fault Tolerance │ └── Event-Driven Architecture │ ├── 05. APIs & Security │ ├── REST, gRPC & WebSockets │ ├── Authentication & Authorization │ ├── Rate Limiting │ ├── API Versioning │ └── Secure Coding Practices │ ├── 06. Cloud & DevOps │ ├── AWS, Azure or GCP │ ├── Docker & Kubernetes │ ├── CI/CD Pipelines │ ├── Infrastructure Basics │ └── Deployment & Rollback │ ├── 07. Production Engineering │ ├── Logs, Metrics & Tracing │ ├── Monitoring & Alerting │ ├── Performance Optimization │ ├── Incident Response │ └── Root Cause Analysis │ ├── 08. Testing & Code Quality │ ├── Unit & Integration Testing │ ├── Code Reviews │ ├── Refactoring Legacy Code │ └── Technical Debt Management │ ├── 09. Technical Leadership │ ├── Mentoring Junior Developers │ ├── Architecture Discussions │ ├── Technical Decision-Making │ ├── Cross-Team Communication │ └── Handling Disagreements │ └── 10. Ownership & Business Impact ├── Understand Business Requirements ├── Break Down Complex Problems ├── Estimate Risks & Trade-offs ├── Own Features End-to-End └── Deliver Measurable Results What do companies actually ask in senior developer interviews? System Design → Design a payment system that prevents duplicate transactions. → How would you scale an application from 10K to 10M users? → When would you choose microservices over a monolith? Databases → Why is your SQL query slow, and how would you optimize it? → How do you maintain data consistency across services? Distributed Systems → What happens if a server crashes during a database transaction? → How would you handle duplicate messages from a queue? Production & DevOps → Your production API suddenly becomes slow. How do you investigate? → How would you deploy a breaking change without downtime? Technical Leadership → Tell me about a major production incident you handled. → Describe a technical decision you made and the trade-offs involved. → How do you handle disagreements during code reviews? The biggest difference? A junior developer often focuses on implementing a feature. A senior developer also thinks about what happens when that feature fails, scales, becomes expensive, or needs to be maintained by another team. You don't need to master every tool on this list. You need strong fundamentals, depth in your domain, and the judgment to make reliable technical decisions. Years of experience may get you shortlisted. Engineering judgment is what makes you senior. Save this for your next career move.

3,000+ LinkedIn requests and 1,000 emails for an internship opening in just 24 hours. The fresher job market is getting brutal. Is the real problem a lack of jobs, too many applicants, or hiring processes that filter out good candidates?
