The people defending HBO's Lanterns with this nonsense is hilarious. The 1960s & 70's were not the same as the 90s (setting for the flashback in the show).
I grew up in the 80s & 90s. My senior year of high school was 1996/97. I knew black families, I had black friends, I babysat for a black family whose son is now a General Manager for an NFL team.
They didn't act like victims, they didn't blame white people, we all treated each other with respect and dignity.
Stop perpetuating this BS. The show does not take place in the short time following the Jim Crow Era like A LOT of these comics you keep using as a defense. If it did, fine, it would make sense. In the show, it's pathetic and keeps this nonsense a live, which is EXACTLY what Hollywood wants, and it's gross.
