A 16-year-old girl was kidnapped at gunpoint while waiting for her school bus. Just 30 minutes later, she stood beside her alleged kidnapper inside a gas station and silently mouthed one word to the clerk: “Help.”
It happened in Michigan, where a stranger had forced the teenager into a van at gunpoint. When the man brought her into a Sunoco gas station and demanded that she buy him cigarettes, clerk Abdulrahman Abohatem immediately sensed something was wrong. The girl was visibly frightened, and her desperate attempt to signal him confirmed his worst fears.
Abdulrahman had no idea what the man might do next. But instead of staying safely behind the protective glass at his counter, he stepped out and confronted him. He physically placed himself between the stranger and the girl, told her to get behind him, and ordered the man out of the store.
It was an extraordinary act of courage. Abdulrahman was an ordinary gas station employee putting himself in harm’s way to protect a teenager he had never met.
Meanwhile, classmates who had witnessed the abduction had alerted police and helped track the girl’s phone. As Abdulrahman escorted the man outside, officers arrived. He immediately pointed out the suspect, who was arrested. Police recovered a handgun, and the teenager was finally safe.
When Abdulrahman was later honored for his bravery, he insisted he didn’t see himself as a hero. He was simply thankful the girl was okay.
The world needs more people like Abdulrahman, and more stories like his.

A teenage girl was drowning 100 yards offshore, and the man trying to save her couldn’t swim. Then he grabbed his fishing drone and attempted a rescue nobody on that beach could have imagined.
It happened at Pensacola Beach, Florida, where Andrew Smith was preparing to go fishing when a desperate girl ran up asking for help. Her friend had been caught in a powerful rip current and was being pulled farther out to sea.
Because of a medical condition, Andrew couldn’t safely swim out to her. But he realized his fishing drone might be able to reach her. He quickly attached a flotation device and flew it toward the struggling girl, only for strong winds to ruin his first attempt.
With the girl growing exhausted, a stranger handed Andrew another flotation device. He launched the drone again, carefully lowered it toward her, and this time, she grabbed hold.
She climbed onto the flotation device and stayed afloat until emergency rescuers arrived and brought her safely to shore.
Remarkably, Andrew hadn’t even planned to go fishing that day. A friend had convinced him to come along, putting him in the right place at exactly the right moment. The girl’s grateful father later called him her guardian angel.
Sometimes being a hero isn’t about having all the right abilities. It’s about refusing to give up when someone needs you.
Some stories are simply too incredible not to share. This is one of them.

A 10-year-old girl was kidnapped in broad daylight. Hours later, two garbage collectors saw something that stopped them in their tracks.
It was the silver car police were searching for, sitting alone in the middle of a field. Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine realized the missing girl could still be inside, so they pulled their garbage truck across the only way out, blocked the car from leaving and called 911.
For the next few minutes, they stayed there with the suspect trapped while police raced to the scene. When officers arrived, they rushed in, arrested the kidnapper and found 10-year-old Jalissa alive inside.
Dion and Brandon were just doing their normal route that morning. But because they were paying attention and refused to let that car leave, a missing 10-year-old girl made it home safely.
Some stories deserve to travel just as far as the bad news does. This is one of them.
