I don't know that I agree with this particular policy on the Moroccan monarchy but I do agree that parents should be legally required to select their children's given names from a register of pre-approved reasonable choices.
Morocco is supposedly one of the most moderate Muslim countries. Let me show you what that “moderation” looks like.
As a Moroccan convert to Christianity, if I moved back to Morocco, among the many things I will face, for now I will pick the one small detail; restrictions even trying to name my son Peter, Mark, or John, not even in Arabic: Boutros, Morcos, or Youhanna!
Why? Because they’re Christian names.
The Moroccan state doesn’t even officially recognize my conversion. I can abandon Islam, but the government still treats me as Muslim.
Now imagine a Western country telling a convert to Islam: “You cannot name your son Muhammad or Omar because you were born Christian.”
Imagine the international outrage!
Yet ask Moroccans whether their country has religious freedom, and many will proudly say YES!
Here’s the catch: That freedom is largely reserved for foreigners.
A foreigner can be Christian in Morocco. A Moroccan who becomes Christian faces persecution, discrimination, and a lack of legal recognition.
In Morocco, your passport determines how much religious freedom you enjoy.
Apparently, freedom of religion means freedom to remain in the religion you were born into.
A lot of people seem to think there's some other solution to the government overextending (eg on pensions) than reducing the expenditures.
There are certainly countries where the government is not at its taxing limit, but, like, France is not one of those countries
This is obviously correct, regardless whether the discipline has meritorious scholarship.

So you have this woman in charge of the American Psychological Association, Rouse over at the American Anthropological Association, etc. It’s just not tenable to claim this stuff is minor or a right wing fever dream when these people keep getting put in charge of major orgs.

As a proud Anglo-American, London is giving me Jabotinsky-feelings about land-use law here.
You are a great nation. You do not need to be living four Barclays-analysts to an apartment.
What if I just have a general position against bringing speakers to college campuses.
The fact that Mexico is relatively high income while having the worst disorder in the continental New World is basically all about the gravity model of trade

Interesting article from Alice Evans about the drastic differences in gender roles between Victorian England and India. If I’d known about this example I might have included it in my Modern Folk Beliefs V: “Your ancestors had kids in their teens”, as it supports the point quite well.

Leaked Republican memo expresses extreme worry about being thrown into that briar patch
Leaked memo shows Republicans privately see Francesca Hong as "uniquely dangerous" in the general election & that “more moderate and establishment Democratic alternatives would likely produce lower base motivation and depressed turnout":

It causes a lot of hubbub whenever things go south, but in practice the reason states subcontract implementation is precisely to gain plausible deniability and achieve things that ass-covering institutions and legal reviews would never permit. It's a state capacity crutch

Point being, the "humanitarian"/"human rights" NGOs have become accustomed, in practice and ideology, to treating laws against material support to terrorists and human traffickers as optional, and the response when anybody notices is pure gaslighting every time.

The NYT needs a conservative columnist. They must meet NYT standards for fact-checking, but present arguments readers will not otherwise encounter. My recommendations: Richard Hanania, Sohrab Ahmari, Wilfred Reilly, Noah Rothman, Jason Chaffetz, Eli Lake, Charles C. W. Cooke, Robby Soave, Amy Chua, or Rob Henderson.

The woke option to support is clearly England
They have to face:
- fascist colony that tried to steal their land decades ago
- global colonial power that sent the largest fleet in history to crush their faith
- nation that imposed their rulers and culture on them for a millenia
It should just be the convention that if you reccline, you tip the person behind you ~$4-5. I don't really know why this isn't already the case.
Surely it would have been cheaper to paint the trains a color that looks nice in fields.
The last of over 5,000 reinforced concrete segments has been lifted into position for the Chipping Warden 'green tunnel' - marking a major milestone for one of the longest 'cut and cover' tunnels on the project 👇🎥.
Set to stretch for one-and-a-half miles, the tunnel is being built inside a cutting, with the earth put back on top afterwards, helping to blend the high-speed railway into the landscape and cut noise and disturbance for people living nearby.
