This week Carmen and I are speaking at a writers' conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Preparation for the conference was exceptional, with warm hospitality from the Canadians toward our American writer and reader friends who will be attending. This, at a time when our two governments have some serious disagreements. Ordinary citizens, brought together by a common love of books and reading, are ignoring the “political” differences.

9 years ago tomorrow, I was forced to move from where I grew up: Charleston.
Some have said I was grumpy about it, but I try to stay off of socials and avoid the tabloids.
9 years. For 9 long years, I have lived with Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers and little yappers I could eat, but no one wins there.
Next Friday I am back!
