Business schools definitely face many challenges. But this article calling to shut them down mostly attacks a caricature of what business schools are -- in its own words, one that focuses excessively on the question of “How do we maximize shareholder value?” In reality, the modern business school is pretty different than the picture painted here: 1) For starters, the article omits any mention of the excellent research being done in business schools. At the author's own institution of Cambridge, this includes research on patient safety in hospitals and entrepreneurship in developing economies. The faculty of most business schools include economists, psychologists, and engineers, all of whom bring different perspectives from their research into the classroom. All of this is sidestepped in the article. 2) One of the main criticisms is that the "case method" focuses too much on single decision-makers over institutions. There is truth to this. But business schools also use a variety of teaching methods. For example, when I teach MBA statistics we emphasize being critical consumers of data and developing broader data literacy skills, without using traditional cases. This makes the student the protagonist of the case rather than a hypothetical manager. 3) Lastly, the article understates the agency that students have, which shapes curricula in the long run. Competition drives business schools to be responsive to student demands, and this usually includes lessons beyond profit-maximization (try to give a 90 minute lecture to MBA students on improving shareholder value and you'll be booed out of the classroom). And if MBA graduates want to work for Goldman Sachs after graduation, that's their own decision -- let's not infantilize our students. For sure, there are sector-wide concerns about the future of MBA programs and business schools, but transforming students from altruists into mindless profit-maximizers is not one of them. nytimes.com/2026/10/18/opini…

Even in my relatively limited number of conversations with folks at the AI labs it has been abundantly clear that they take data privacy *very* seriously.
Just to be clear: stupid rumor based on insinuation in the Navier-Stokes letter that OAI folks may have "read the chat transcripts to get the idea" makes no sense to anyone who knows how these models work or how the data contracts work. As Sholto says, please stop repeating this.

In all seriousness, Ramp did not invent the concept of a private-sector economics team producing public-facing research. The big banks have done it for years. Zillow/Redfin/Indeed all made it a central component of their marketing in the 2010s. We were however the first to do it for a company of our size and scale, and do it well, which I attribute to a few things.
be sure to like and subscribe for more credible analysis of proprietary data from a highly educated nerd Fun one with @SoumayaKeynes on the increasing trend of AI startups hiring economics teams!

Most of my writing is in LaTeX, where it’s very easy to generate an em dash. But if I’m being honest, when using other writing tools, I’ll Google “em dash” and copy/paste the mark from the AI Overview at the top.
How do you even generate an em dash?? I don’t even know the button or shortcut for it

This is a great choice for Cornell! Matt’s enthusiasm for Cornell entrepreneurship is infectious. I can’t wait to see what he does in this role.

People are also using Codex for increasingly complex tasks -- at this point, >80% of individual users ask Codex to complete a task that would take an experienced human more than 30m; >25% ask Codex to complete a task that would take an experienced human over 8 hours!

A very timely and important paper by Raffaella, Pierre Azoulay, and Daniela Scur on how policy changes to U.S. science funding in early 2025 have affected young scientists’ sentiment toward scientific careers. "These are not the complaints of established scientists defending their budgets, but rather the stated intentions of the next generation."

But we do want to give the absolute most we can, for as long as we can. So Fable 5 is fully included in your subscription limits for the next 14 days, through June 22. If at all possible, we'll extend that window week by week, but sadly can’t guarantee anything here.
