There was a time when we all used #tape, and yes, most of those use-cases are obsolete (anyone still using their Walkman?). But in the world of data storage, it has never gone away - and it keeps finding new uses, as we were reminded this week.
New on our @ComputerWeekly blog, there's many ways to build modern tape storage into your ESG & data governance plans & @Hammerspace_Inc has just added one more: treat tape as an equal. @bryan_gb asks, How much more will it take to convince the sceptics? computerweekly.com/blog/Writ…

Are you investing in generative AI? Many are, but what does it even mean - is it direct, indirect, something else...? A clear view here should help a lot with seeing where the real value lies, writes @Dale_Vile on our @ComputerWeekly blog computerweekly.com/blog/Writ…

Pay doctors fairly! Junior doctors are only "junior" compared to senior consultants - they are fully-trained medics responsible for patients' life and death...
Monday I was the only F1 covering all medical wards at work. There was a cardiac arrest after my shift ended which I attended. Tuesday, I finished my shift performing CPR on a gentleman who deteriorated unexpectedly. I was the one who decided to escalate. (1/2)

The ability -given the right software- of NPUs to boost the performance of key functions, while actually using *less* power, has the potential to make them a must-have for laptop buyers at the very least. #Intel #AMD #Qualcomm #Apple
What's the point of AI-enabling a laptop or desktop when there's already so much AI compute power in the cloud? On our @ComputerWeekly blog, @bryan_gb explains some of the key whys and wherefores... computerweekly.com/blog/Writ…

Utterly scandalous and shocking, yet utterly predictable given the pigheaded clowns in charge at the PO.
A Christmas #PostOfficeScandal. When the Post Office finally paid compensation to its victims, it landed them with a tax bill. It promised to cover this - but failed. 1,100 postmasters will have a £10k tax bill on 31 Jan with no help at all. Important 🧡:

#VMware users and resellers - how's the #Broadcom deal working out for you so far? πŸ€”
If you're a #VMware user or partner, then you -like us-were probably relieved when the uncertainty over the #Broadcom deal finally ended. But now you, like us, are probably back to being confused, as Broadcom appears to chuck it all up in the air again... computerweekly.com/blog/Writ…

Is this something you've tried - or seen tried? Would you recruit in ways like this?
New on our @ComputerWeekly blog, a meeting with @OpenUK_uk leaves our @bryan_gb wondering - could, or should, you build #OpenSource project work into your #JobSearch? computerweekly.com/blog/Writ…

Hi @CapitalOneUK I just got this in an email from you: "We've noticed you've not been opening our emails recently." OK, I'm curious - how do you think you know this? Tracking links or some other form of spyware? Do you have "return receipt" set on? πŸ€”

Just so you know, I read all your emails, but not in a browser. I tried to reply to say so but your email was sent from an address that refuses email - which is pretty ironic when you're complaining about people not reading their email... 🀣

Hi @ThreeUK why are you breaking your promises? On your Data Reward SIM webpage it says "an existing customer who has registered already... will continue to receive the 200MB every month for life" three.co.uk/terms-conditions…

But I've just had this allowance taken away from both my Data Reward SIMs - "Due to system upgrade you will not get 200mb data now" said the support chat when I complained. Hint: that is *not* what the word "upgrade" means...

Tan made 3 'commitments' to VMware customers: to accelerate VMware R&D, invest more in the ecosystem & partners, and make the software easier to use/consume. #MRDA of course, but very interesting to see him here.

Yes, it's NewsThump, but I'm still not sure if it's actually satire. 😒
Mass shootings are now such an accepted, normal part of US life, that Google has developed warnings in their navigation tools so people can plan their routes accordingly. "Honey, we better leave 15 mins earlier, we've got to go the long way round to avoid a mass shooting."
