Ithaca’s Council will be voting on a moratorium on event permits for all student events, on and off-campus, until Cornell reviews its sexual violence procedures and publishes new ones that actually protect students. We stand with Jane Doe and call on Cornell to do better.

Today, I want to honor Columbia student Emma Sulkowicz, who carried a mattress around campus as a performance-art protest over the university’s handling of her se*ual-assault allegation against fellow student Paul Nungesser. Columbia investigated the allegation and found Nungesser β€œnot responsible”, he was never criminally charged. Nungesser later sued Columbia, and reached a confidential settlement in 2017.

Gavin Newsom vetoed a telework bill that was backed by labor unions that would've required state agencies to justify demands for employees to work in person, and would've made the costs and benefits of telework more transparent. SEIU Local 1000, which represents about 100,000 state employees, is asking members to authorize a strike over disagreements including pay and remote work.
