New in @ScienceAdvances! While maize is an excellent source of carbohydrates, it contains very little lysine, an essential amino acid without which, people cannot build and maintain body tissues like muscles and bones. science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

tl;dr Ancient maize farmers didn’t overcome maize's nutritional limitations by eating more maize. They overcame them by foddering animals with maize and letting them do the biochemical work first.

Happy #MayTheFourth! Fun read from ⁦⁦@DSAArchaeology⁩ though I’m not personally a fan of the term #ruins still an interesting article. Going to Temple IV at Tikal for the first time was pretty spectacular. forbes.com/sites/davidanders…

Proud to be part of this interdisciplinary health promotion in the communities that have so generously and kindly collaborated with my research for two decades, with thanks to @CecilMLewisJr @UNM_Anthro #santacruzbelize #uxbenka
Place-based health promotion (for Belize) inspired conversations with medical anthropology, supported by a biological anthropologist, for local engagement led by an archaeologist, using the talent of linguistic anthropologist, with the help of our local partners. #Anthropology
