This is the moment I found out 45-year-old Thi Kim Tran had been abducted from her home in Bankstown and torched to death by five male thugs in Beverley Hills. They beat her eight-year-old boy so badly he had to be placed in a coma. Her children are under police guard in hospital. I'd just finished repairing and adding three more women to the She Matters mural in Hosier Lane, Melbourne, when I found out. I sat in front of all these faces adding another woman to our toll of violence. I cannot tell you how heartbreaking this moment was. There's now 122 victims on the mural - all women killed since January 1, 2024. I add Claire Austin, Kim Duncan and Louise Hunt yesterday. I'll add Thi to the mural as soon as possible. I also fixed extensive damage yesterday - I had to replace about 15 of the cards. Taggers had painted offensive words and slogans across some of the faces. The mural has been there for just over six weeks. I'd like it to last a lot longer. Sales of the t-shirts and donations actually paid for the mural.
