Great to be at @EducationFest today in the sunshine (but not as hot as earlier in the week, thank goodness! 🥵)
It’s been fantastic to see colleagues from across the sector, get insights from schools and see @TeachFirst colleagues at our tent - come and say hello! 👋
This was a wonderful summary of a fantastic day. So great to have our partners together, sharing practice and ideas. Thank you @JayneCarBF!
🧡Members of the ECF team, along with @JayneCarBF, Director of our Teaching School Hubs attended the @TeachFirst Delivery Partner Conference today
🧡Networking with so many colleagues was fantastic
🧡Jayne was able to sum up the day perfectly in the closing speech

We talk a lot about the recruitment crisis in education; about the inability to find enough applicants to fill our ITT courses. But it’s as much a retention crisis as it is anything to do with recruitment. 🧵 (1/5)

Looking for written or video case studies or podcasts about schools who have made DEI a priority in curric design to inspire leaders - can you help? Eg decolonising, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, disability
Some of this is pretty damning. It seems to be an inconsistent picture, as some schools are managing innovation and success in approach to flexibility
More than one-third of female school staff had their requests for flexible working turned down, @unisontheunion research suggests

This is fantastic news
The Children, Young People, and Schools committee of @BrightonHoveCC has voted to approve the creation of a new priority group - children eligible for free school meals - in the secondary school admissions process in the city. We believe this is the first time this has happened.

This is worrying because it puts leaders in more difficult positions than before.

Tim was the best of us. Brilliant, in the truest sense of the word.
A profound loss, in this moment, but only because his whole life has been education’s gain.
Much love to you all @HarryBrighouse1 x

This is a fascinating observation from Sam, especially relevant in light of the immigration reforms announced today.
Replying to @Samfr
Here's the most important chart. It shows the UK is the *only* country in Europe where second generation immigrants outperform non-immigrant students. (And first generation don't do much worse).

Attendance from Two Sides
During 12 years of headship, in two different schools, managing pupils' attendance was always a priority.
Improving attendance was often on our school development plans.
In our school prospectus, I said things like "Every day is unmissable!".

Looking forward to speaking at the @CompleteCareer #CCLLPPC23 this morning. Sharing the work @TeachFirst are doing to improve life chances and choices for children - including a pilot around careers related learning in Primary schools with the CEC
Looking forward to this in January. Updated thoughts from me and @informed_edu

We need to be talking more about this - but in really concrete terms. How can we make it more central? More visible? More externally valued?

Such a great write up on the book in today’s Guardian.
Massive thanks to the contributors, my copy editors @rozburrows and Rianna Wilson and my book designer Rachel Lawston because without all of you, this book would just be an idea. theguardian.com/education/20…
