🌍 Effective biodiversity governance in Nigeria requires coordinated action among federal and state institutions, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, researchers, farmers and the media. By strengthening collaboration, promoting inclusive decision-making, sharing knowledge and tracking progress, these stakeholders can help translate national and global biodiversity commitments into practical, measurable action at the community level. Regular monitoring, transparent reporting and public engagement are essential to holding institutions accountable, identifying implementation gaps and ensuring that biodiversity policies deliver lasting benefits for ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. @UNBiodiversity @ncfnigeria @gifsep4climate @WBG_ClimateEnv @CCJ_Certa @CCJ_Certa @FAOclimate @YMCAKaduna @eweinigeria @UNEP @unwomenNG #CBDCOP17 #CLIK #ClimateLensInKaduna #BTGInitiative #BiodiversityGovernance #IndigenousPeoples #LocalCommunities #CommunityLedConservation #NaturePositive #ActingLocallyCreatingGlobalImpact

🌍 CBD COP17 KEY MESSAGE | RECOGNISING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES Who should have a voice in decisions about biodiversity? The answer is clear: "the people who live closest to nature and help sustain it must be recognised, respected, and included". As the global community gathers for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), the importance of placing Indigenous Peoples and local communities at the heart of biodiversity governance cannot be overemphasizd. Their traditional knowledge, cultural practices, community leadership, and deep understanding of local ecosystems are essential to protecting biodiversity and restoring degraded environments. Yet, meaningful participation goes beyond simply inviting communities to the table. It requires respecting their rights, strengthening their governance structures, and ensuring they have access to the financial resources needed to lead and sustain conservation efforts. Biodiversity protection must not happen to communities, but with them and through their leadership. @UNBiodiversity @ncfnigeria @gifsep4climate @WBG_ClimateEnv @CCJ_Certa @CCJ_Certa @FAOclimate #CBDCOP17 #CLIK #ClimateLensInKaduna #BiodiversityGovernance #IndigenousPeoples #LocalCommunities #CommunityLedConservation #NaturePositive #ActingLocallyCreatingGlobalImpact

🌍 CBD COP17: What Does It Mean for Nigeria’s Environmental Future As the world gathers in Yerevan, Armenia, for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), one critical question stands out: Are global biodiversity commitments translating into real change for people and nature? For Nigeria, biodiversity is more than an environmental concern. It sustains our food systems, livelihoods, water resources, soil fertility, traditional knowledge and cultural heritage. COP17 offers an important opportunity to review progress under the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and strengthen action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) believes that global commitments must translate into practical, locally driven action restoring degraded ecosystems, protecting forests and wetlands, reducing pollution, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and ensuring that women, young people and local communities have a meaningful voice in environmental decisions. 🌱 The takeaway: COP17 must be more than a global meeting. It must be a turning point towards healthier ecosystems, stronger livelihoods and a more resilient future for Nigerian communities. 📖 Read our document, Understanding CBD COP17: Crucial Takeaways for Nigeria’s Environmental Policy, to explore what is at stake and why local action matters. 🌍 INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER RISK REDUCTION Disasters may not always be preventable, but their impact can be reduced when we understand the risks, prepare early, and act together. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is everyone’s responsibility. Here are practical actions we can take in our communities to build safer, more resilient environments: ✅ Clear drainage channels and dispose of waste properly to reduce flooding. 🌳 Plant trees and protect the environment to control erosion and reduce environmental risks. 🏘️ Identify local hazards such as flood-prone areas, unsafe buildings, and fire risks. 🎒 Prepare emergency kits and establish family emergency plans. 📢 Share verified early warnings and reliable safety information with neighbours. 🔥 Practise fire safety at home, in schools, markets, and workplaces. 🩹 Train community volunteers in first aid, evacuation, and emergency response. 🤝 Include women, young people, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in disaster preparedness plans. 🚧 Report unsafe infrastructure and avoid building in high-risk areas. 👥 Organise community disaster committees to coordinate preparedness and response efforts. Disaster risk reduction begins with us. Know your risks. Prepare today. Protect lives. Build resilient communities.🌱 What practical action will you take in your community today? #InternationalDayForDisasterRiskReduction #DRRDay #CommunityResilience #DisasterPreparedness #RiskReduction #BridgeThatGap #BTGInitiative

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 💚💙 Every girl deserves access to quality education, good healthcare, equal opportunities, safety, and the freedom to dream without limitations. Yet, too many girls continue to face barriers that threaten their rights, silence their voices, and limit their potential. From gender-based violence and child marriage, to educational exclusion and unequal opportunities, these challenges remain real. Today, we are reminded that empowering girls is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future. At @bridge_thatgap, we believe that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to her community. When girls are empowered, families grow stronger, communities become more resilient, and societies move closer to sustainable development. As we commemorate this year's International Day of the Girl Child, let us move beyond conversations to action. ✨ Educate her. Protect her. Listen to her. Empower her. Let us challenge harmful norms, demand policies that protect girls' rights, create safe spaces for their voices, and ensure that no girl is left behind. 📢A girl with opportunities today is a woman shaping a better tomorrow. #DayOfTheGirl #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #GirlsRights #EmpowerGirls #GenderEquality #BTGInitiative #LeaveNoGirlBehind #BridgeThatGap

💚 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY | 10 OCTOBER Your Mental Health Matters. You Matter. Behind every smile, every act of kindness, and every achievement is a human being with emotions, struggles, and a story that deserves to be heard. 💚 This World Mental Health Day, @bridge_thatgap reminds us that mental health is just as important as physical health. Everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, understood, and empowered to seek help without fear of stigma or judgment. Sometimes, support begins with the simplest things: 💚 Checking in on someone. 💚 Listening without judgment. 💚 Offering kindness instead of criticism. 💚 Creating safe spaces where people can speak openly. 💚 Encouraging people to seek professional help when needed. Let us build communities where asking for help is a sign of courage, not weakness; where mental well-being is prioritised, and no one has to face their struggles alone. Today and every day, let’s break the stigma, nurture compassion, and bridge the gap between struggle and support. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. You matter.💚 #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #MentalWellbeing #PsychosocialSupport #SafeSpaces #BridgeThatGapInitiative #ActingLocallyCreatingGlobalImpact

🕊️ WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY Protect Birds. Protect Nature. Protect Our Future. Every year, millions of birds embark on extraordinary journeys across continents, connecting ecosystems, cultures, and communities. Their migration is a powerful reminder that nature knows no boundaries and that protecting biodiversity is a shared responsibility. Yet, habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and human activities continue to threaten these remarkable travellers. This World Migratory Bird Day, let us take action to protect the habitats birds depend on, preserve our wetlands and forests, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable practices that support their survival. 🌿 Healthy ecosystems. Thriving birds. Sustainable communities. BTG Joins Project Steering Committee for the Supporting the Localization Agenda in Nigeria’s North Central and North West. Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) was represented at the Inception, Governance, Delivery-Footprint Confirmation and Co-Creation Meeting for the Supporting the Localization Agenda in Nigeria’s North Central and North West initiative, held on 24 September 2026 in Abuja. The meeting organised by Women's Right to Education Programme (WREP), with support from the Christian Aid @CAID_Nigeria seeks to- strengthen locally led humanitarian action by increasing the leadership, participation, capacity and influence of Local and National NGOs (LNNGOs) and affected communities; move localisation beyond participation towards leadership, ownership, resourcing and shared decision-making; use a Survivor and Community-Led Response (SCLR) approach so communities identify priorities and eligible local actors can access flexible micro-grants for community-defined solutions. A key highlight of the meeting was the establishment of the Project Steering Committee (PSC), which will provide strategic oversight, review progress and risks, and support key decision-making throughout the project. We are pleased to share that Bridge That Gap Initiative was nominated as a member of the Project Steering Committee (PSC). This opportunity strengthens BTG’s role in advancing locally led humanitarian action, community ownership, meaningful participation and accountable decision-making. The project seeks to shift localisation beyond participation towards greater local leadership, ownership, resourcing and shared decision-making, while enabling communities to identify and shape solutions to their priorities. For BTG, this representation provides an important platform to contribute to grassroots perspectives and experiences to project governance and implementation, while supporting approaches that place affected communities and local actors at the centre of humanitarian decision-making. As a PSC member, BTG looks forward to contributing to a process that strengthens local leadership, community ownership, transparent decision-making and accessible financing in Kaduna, and Plateau States. #BridgeThatGapInitiative #BTG #Localization #LocallyLedAction #HumanitarianAction #CommunityLedDevelopment #CommunityOwnership #NorthCentral #NorthWestNigeria #Nigeria

Amplifying What Kaduna Women Want Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) participated in the Women’s Electoral & Governance Demand Forum under the Strengthening Inclusive Peace Project (SIPP), organised by the Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) with support from Strengthening Peace Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG). The forum brought together diverse women leaders and young women to discuss What Women Want from elections and governance, identify issues affecting their participation, leadership and influence, and develop recommendations for more inclusive and responsive electoral and governance processes. What do we mean by women’s participation? Women’s participation goes beyond simply casting a ballot. Women can engage in elections and governance: 🗳️ AS VOTERS, register, vote and make informed choices. 📋AS CANDIDATES, contest elections and seek public office. 📣AS CAMPAIGNERS, participate in campaigns, mobilisation and advocacy. 👩🏽‍💼AS LEADERS, lead within political parties, communities and institutions. 🤝AS CITIZENS & ADVOCATES, Engage government, organise and advocate for change. The recommendations generated from the forum will inform a 13-week radio programme, “What Kaduna Women Want,” providing a wider platform to amplify women’s voices, highlight their priorities and bring their recommendations into public discussion. 📻 Stay tuned for “What Kaduna Women Want” and join the conversation. #WhatKadunaWomenWant #WomenInGovernance #WomenLeadership #InclusiveGovernance #WomenParticipation #BridgeThatGapInitiative #KadunaWomen #ElectoralParticipation #Peacebuilding #sippers @gat_org @NigeriaSPRiNG

🕊️ INVEST IN PEACE; FOR EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, EVERY DAY 🌍In a world facing conflict, insecurity, displacement, inequality and growing uncertainty, the search for peace can feel overwhelming. But peace has never been more urgent or more necessary. Peace is more than the absence of war. It is the presence of safety, dignity, justice, opportunity, inclusion and cooperation in our everyday lives. It is the ability of children to learn without fear, women and girls to live with dignity, young people to see a future for themselves, and communities to resolve differences without violence. This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reminds us that peace is not built only at negotiating tables or during times of crisis. It is built in homes, schools, communities and institutions; through everyday actions and choices. At @bridge_thatgap, we recognise the people who are building peace from the ground up: community leaders, women, young people, peacebuilders, traditional institutions, civil society actors and everyday citizens who choose dialogue over division and cooperation over conflict. They are the everyday architects of peace. Investing in peace means investing in people, inclusive communities, opportunities, dialogue, social cohesion and systems that allow everyone to participate and thrive. Because lasting peace is not something we simply hope for. It is something we build, together, every day. 🕊️ This International Peace Day, let us ask ourselves: What can I do today to make peace possible for someone else? #InternationalDayOfPeace #PeaceDay2026 #InvestInPeace #EverydayArchitectsOfPeace #Peacebuilding #SocialCohesion #InclusivePeace #CommunityPeacebuilding #BridgeThatGapInitiative #ActingLocallyCreatingGlobalImpact

1/ On August 27, I met with the Governors of our 36 States, and we agreed on a clear objective that from October 1, more Nigerians should begin to see measurable reductions in transportation costs. An implementation committee for the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme was subsequently established under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum @NGFSecretariat, chaired by the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq @RealAARahman. I am aware of the considerable work already underway by the committee, PI-CNG & EV, the States, and other critical stakeholders to identify priority transport corridors, determine appropriate interventions, and put the necessary arrangements in place. This work has become even more urgent in the face of the current global energy crisis.
